Get Moving On Your Days Off Too

Fit Tip: Be On on Days Off

We all need a day of rest from our grueling workouts, not only for our mind but for our body as well. However, just because you're not hitting the gym does not give you a license to be a couch potato. Instead, try to do 30 minutes of leisurely activities such as walking your dog, or stretching while you watch TV. Staying active on your days off will not only help you return to your workout mentally, but it should also help with soreness between sessions. Plus if weight loss is your goal, every calorie burned counts, right?

Fit's Tip: Your body needs its rest though, so don't overdo it.

that's one of my problems though - the resting your body part. i feel like if i don't go to the gym even for a day - then i'm being lazy. there are days that i can tell that my body is EXHAUSTED from working out - but that doesn't usually stop me

As Madonna puts it "there is no such thing as a day off! Your body does not take a day off!" God, I love her. =P On my 'off' days, I go to Disneyland for like 5 hours or I dance for an hour at home or go clubbing. =D

I take a day off every week and on that day, I take a long walk with my dog instead of my normal workout. It keeps my muscles loose and it helps me recuperate for my workout the next day.

I try to walk on the weekends whenever possible; if I have errands, I will walk instead of taking the train. It makes me feel so much better and keeps my muscles from getting stiff and tight.

Good tip. I try to keep this in mind on those days when I just CANNOT motivate myself to go to the gym. I figure spending an hour or so walking around the mall is a pretty good off-day activity. :)

Friday was my off day. Does strolling Target count as leisure activity? haha the next day I went on a grueling hike, so I think I did okay over the weekend

So true. This summer I plan on walking on my days off. I can't wait till we have some warm weather.
