Halloween Diet Tip: Hand Out Candy You Hate

Halloween Survival Guide: Hand Out Candy You Hate

Last week, I warned you all to postpone buying your Halloween handouts to avoid having the fun-sized temptations close at hand. With the Oct. 31 less than a week away, you might want to cross this item off your to-do list and get ready for the big day, so here's some handy advice that FitSugar reader nicole121482 posted in the comments section:

Another good tip is to buy candy that you don't like or that you like the least . . . much easier to resist that way.

I couldn't agree more. I will likely hand out Dum Dum Pops, so easy to resist yet kids love them, and candy corn. Yes, I am one of the rare few that just can't stand candy corn.

What will you be passing out come Halloween? Something you consider a treat? Tell us in the comments section below.

That's a great idea. I sort of do a variation on that when I have people over for cocktails--I always keep a supply of fancy cashews on hand. Everyone else loves them but I don't, so I always have a little snack if people want that I know I won't indulge in.

@OneHungryMess - YES! One of my coworkers has a bag and I have to try so hard to resist them. He rarely offers them up but has given the OK to grab them when we want. I've just forced myself to feel bad about asking or them, so I'll only take the occasional one piece when he actively offers them up. Love the name, btw. As for candy corn, it's weird - I thought EVERYBODY hated them and that I was one of the few that actually really likes them!

My parents are handing out packages of Silly Bandz instead of candy. No temptation there!

What an excellent suggestion! I don't like candy, but when there's peanut butter involved... And no, you're definitely not the only one; candy corn is gross.

Yep, I hand out those nasty peanut butter taffy things wrapped in orange and black waxed paper. I get barely any trick or treaters anyway, but my husband will eat the leftovers of any candy that we have left over.

I love candy corn. And nerds. I guess I'm stuck with crappy black licorice and whoppers. Unfortunately kids hate those too, because they are shitty candy. Fortunately, not many kids come to my door, and I'mma party that night! 21st bday at midnight woooot

This is an incredibly practical tip. I always buy favorites like peanut butter cups to give out as an excuse, but end up gobbling more than my share. Maybe this year I'll give our Nerds and Zours. Gross.

Yes I have learned the hard way never to keep Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Snickers in the house!
