Have You Ever Played a Team Sport?

If there were more than 24 hours in a day, I would take some of that extra time and play an intramural team sport. There are plenty of fun individual competitive sports that allow for more spontaneity than getting a group together, but the communal feeling cultivated by team sports makes them extra special. Thinking about playing on a team makes me nostalgic for the sports I played in my youth, like soccer and basketball. So what about you . . .

I played volleyball in HS, and loved it. I haven't played any sort of organized sport since then though.

I played a sport every season from 6th-12th grade. Fall: Field Hockey, Winter: Swimming/ diving, Spring: Softball 1yrs, lacross 2yrs, crew 4years. Then freshman year of college I did crew for a year until I discovered a world outside of waking up at 4:30 in the morning.

When I was in 6th-7th grade, I played basketball. I really liked it, but I stopped playing when I realized that A) I really sucked at it and B) I wasn't going to grow any more and all the other girls were at least 6 inches taller than me, lol. I don't have a lot of coordination, so I tend to avoid most team sports. I'm more of a running person because it doesn't involve as much eye-hand coordination.

I played soccer for 10 years, but then quit junior year of high school (or "retired" as my mom likes to put it). My knees are probably quite screwed up because of it, but I like to think that I saved them by quitting when I did. And I was lucky enough not to suffer any major injuries like some of my friends who tore their ACL's, sprained wrists/ankles, broke arms, etc.

I played indoor soccer one year when I was little. I actually made a goal too and everyone was so excited for me because I wasn't really into it. Here is what I remember, standing near the goal fidgeting with the carpet and my shoes and then all of a sudden there was a ball at my feet so i kicked it into the goal. Everyone went crazy. I was just glad I didn't have to stand out there anymore, hehehe.

I've played soccer since I was six. I think a lot of women stop after high school but I have kept playing! I've played on a women's team in the city league for over 16 years and it's so fun.

I played soccer for three years in elementary school, and I did cheerleading for two years in middle school. I tried out for volleyball in high school, but I didn't make the team.

I 'played' cross country and track in college. Did the 5(3.1) and 10k(6.2) in track (cross country was mostly 6k, 3.75miles). I believe that these count as team sports, because you as a team do work towards certain goals that can't be achieved individually (such as regional and national championships, sure you can be a national champion, but all of you can be team national champs).

I played all throughout my youth and high school, and after college as well. For the past couple of years I've played league soccer (indoor and outdoor) and volleyball, so that I'm pretty much on a team (Same people, with a few cycling on and off per work commitments) yearround. I stick to it, b/c the group of people I play with are fun (we love going out afterwards) and we just work really well together as a team. Its a great way to get exercise and have fun, certainly breaks up the routine a bit!
