Healthy Eating Tip: Give in to Your Cravings, Just a Little

Cravings happen to the best of us and they're hard to ignore. One of the best ways to get rid of a craving is to give in to your craving, but just a little. Allow yourself to indulge in a food every once in a while, and don't go overboard. In fact, CNN even reported that people who occasionally give in are able to manage their weight most successfully in the long run. So be sure to practice portion control, which means if you're craving chocolate, have a piece instead of the whole bar. If you're craving french fries, order a small instead of a large. If you're craving soda, have only a few sips. You get the idea, right?

I always have one cheat meal a week. I eat healthy and exercise all week, then on Satuday night, I have whatever I want...appetizer, meal, dessert...whatever. It keeps me sane. So on Saturdays, I think about what I've been craving all week and then go eat it!

..me too Sun_Sun. That's the only time I really crave sugar.. or chocolate rather. If I crave it then, I totally make sure to buy chocolate then. Other than that, I don't go out of my way to eat sweets. Just usually strawberries so I won't crave anything sweet.

I just want to know what triggers the cravings, like out of no where. Where the hell does it come from? Is it because we are suppose to satisfy these cravings or because our body needs it? Or is it just a hedonistic thing or something? I hate the random cravings. I wonder if we've never tried what we crave would we really crave such things?

I don't really get "cravings" so much anymore, but when I do get them, I do let myself have what I want. It's not the end of the world if I eat a piece of cake or something. I just don't eat stuff like that every day.

I don't eat entire candy bars because I buy big ones of dark chocolate. I don't need more than 2 pieces. Regular milk chocolate barely fills me up and I don't like having regular candy bars much because having 2 pieces of the dark one as my dessert is more filling. I don't think the craving thing works the same for everyone.

So...if I am craving pizza...instead of odering a small extra cheese (14" of which I would eat all of it over the course of the eveing) go get my Pizza Olympiad which has 450 cals for the whole thing? Yep, I have been eating lots of Trader Joe Pizza lately lmao. But all I have been craving are slushees and i don't live near a sonics so i only get those 1 or 2 times a month!!! MMMMMMMMMM

This is sooo hard for me because I'm an all or nothing kind of person. I've really been trying to savor a little bit, but I've actually found that I'm better off if I eat too many french fries because that satisfies me and then I don't crave them again for a while.

I don't know, if I give into cravings it just makes me crave them more later. If I ignore it until it goes away then it usually doesn't return. I lose interest in foods that I haven't eaten in a while...it's the treats I eat "in moderation" I continue to want the most. I think this kind of thing is highly individual.

As for me, I don't indulge in my sweet cravings anymore. I find that sweets aggravate my PMS. It's just not worth it, as my PMS is terrible.

Yeah really, god forbid a girl eat an entire candy bar ... she would immediately turn into a blimp! A better strategy, at least for me, is to really and truly eat whatever I want (and not to pretend that all I really want is a salad with no dressing)... amazingly, I genuinely don't WANT to eat a gallon of ice cream all at once. When nothing is forbidden, "bad" foods just don't have the same irresistible appeal. (And no I'm not overweight at all)

Why can't you occasionally eat more, if that's what you crave? Why not have a whole chocolate bar if that's what you want, once in a blue moon?
