Healthy Ginger Ale Recipe

Save Money, Save Calories: Make Your Own Ginger Ale

If I am going to indulge in a soda, I usually choose some form of ginger ale. So you know I was excited when I found a recipe for making my own ginger brew at home. This recipe makes a tasty, mild, and quite refreshing drink, perfect for sipping in the afternoon. It's lower in sugar than anything you'll find in the stores, plus, ginger is a great antidote for motion sickness and promotes digestion as well.

Healthy Ginger Ale

Ingredients

4 teaspoons fresh grated ginger
2 cups water
4 teaspoons honey
2 cups soda water
Lemon
Ice

Directions

  1. Finely chop ginger in a food processor or with a hand grater. Boil the still water and add the ginger to it. Cover and let steep for 10 minutes. Strain, then add honey.
  2. Allow mixture to cool to room temperature. To make each glass, pour one-half cup of mixture into a tall glass. To that, add one-half cup soda water, a lemon slice, and ice. Stir and enjoy immediately.

My husband went to Jamaica and came back addicted to "Ginger Beer" (non alcoholic) I found a recipe similar to this with just a few differences.\u00a0Instead of lemon slices added later, I juiced them and put them in with the ginger, also I did a 2:1 lemon to lime ratio. It came out very similar to the Jamaican version.
