Holiday Survival: Take a Twinkly Stroll

It's hard to find time for fitness over the holidays, especially if you have house guests or family in town. So get into the holiday spirit while getting moving. Assuming you don't live in a terribly frigid climate, bundle up with your significant other and/or family and take a walk to check out the holiday light displays in your 'hood.

Live in the city or on a light-free block? Research the best light displays in your city and take the car; just be sure to get out and walk around once you're there. Don't forget to bring along some lighted accessories to increase your visibility, and walk defensively against traffic and be on the lookout for cars. Make it even more of a celebration by toting a Thermos full of a warm beverage like apple cider or green tea. Just try to resist the cocoa.

I really wish this was a practical option here...but this year there has been a BAD ice issue, to say nothing of the wind chill!

Good idea--when I was a kid my parents used to pile us all in the car and drive around looking at the lights. So much more healthy to walk instead!

that's one of the hard things about living in NYC - there's really nothing overly spectacular to look at light wise unless you count the tree - and it's brutal to go to see it during this time of year since the area is overwhelmed with tourists.

I do this in the winter...Lots of the big houses by the lake decorate for Christmas and I like to go walking down there to see all the neat lights and stuff. They also set up a really neat light show in the park by the lake that stays up through January 2 and I like to walk with my dog through there to see all the cool things they put up.
