Honey Eases Coughing at Night

Just a Spoonful of Honey

It's that time of year when dry coughs begin to interfere with sleep. You lie down and start coughing, and the coughing keeps you up. Never fear, there's a natural fix for the problem: honey.

The amber liquid has been found to ease nighttime coughs. It is believed that honey helps ease coughs for a variety of reasons. Not only does it soothe sore throats because it is a humectant, helping trap moisture where it is needed, but honey is also high in antioxidants and has antimicrobial effects. Try a teaspoon before bed and see if it helps.

Ok, so I've never even heard of "fake" honey that is HFCS with flavoring added. I always get apple honey from the apple orchard in the fall and it's great stuff. I like it in tea when I'm sick. It's amazing.

Vanonymous, I agree about the honey and milk, tasty and comforting. Honey for a sore throat and coughing was my mom and grandma's cure all.

Honey is seriously an amazing natural ingrediant. I've used it in tea for coughs & sore throats, but also like it in my oatmeal or while making honey mustard chicken!

This makes me sound like such an old lady, but when I'm feeling sick, I love to warm up some milk in the microwave and add a teaspoon of honey. It is surprisingly comforting!
