How Bad Are the 9 Unhealthiest Restaurant Meals?

I nearly lost my lunch upon discovering the nutritional stats of unhealthiest restaurant meals, as determined by the Center For Science in the Public Interest. The group compiled nine menu items for its Xtreme Eating 2009 dishes, and all of them have extreme amounts of saturated fat, calories, and sodium. Can you guess how bad these items really are? Take the quiz!

Thanks, Fit, for reminding me why I never eat out at restaurants.

Wow, those are some awful meals. I cannot believe how phenomenally bad they are. I know fast food and eating out is generally bad for you but these numbers are off the charts; days of calories and sodium and fat in a single part of a meal!

This doesn't surprise me at all. Luckily, I haven't even heard of any of these items. I avoid Cheesecake factory if I can help it, and when I go out to eat, I try to only eat 1/3 to 1/2 of my food.

I have honestly never eaten at Olive Garden or Red Lobster, and this kind of makes me glad! I only got 3/9 and I think it's because I have never ordered anything like that! GROSS. It is also so sad how people who want to eat healthily have to pick their way through most restaurant menus.... a lot of places I go to, I just order a side salad, a side vegetable, and then pick at someone elses' entree.

I only got 4/9 because I seriously never eat stuff like this, so I just picked random answers. All of the options for the possible answers were insanely out of control anyway, so it's not like any of the real answers surprised me. We don't have a Cheesecake Factory near us, so we never go there and I'm not a huge fan of Olive Garden or Chili's, either. I'd much prefer to eat at home so I know exactly what's going into my mouth.

Things like this only reinforce why I cook at home. Between the amount of things restaurants pit in their meals, the price and the inevitable screaming child or drunk loud adult who always manages to sit by me its just not worth it!

I don't think I would order any of those entrees. Gross!!

Ok, seriously - am I the only one who thinks that there should be laws against food like this? I try to always check nutrition info before I leave, but things sound yummy or harmless - like chicken and biscuits - and they have OVER the amount of calories someone should consume in an entire DAY!Restaurants should be forced to include calories/sat.fat/etc on the NORMAL menu for items, especially the extremely unhealthy ones.

I have to say, I like the Cheesecake Factory. I don't go there often because I am aware of their portion sizes and how many calories there must be in many of their dishes, but when I'm in the mood to (usually a party mood, and I would normally split a salad and burger with someone or just eat half a meal for myself), I go. I just looked at thisiswhyyourefat.com....and it's gross. No, it's disgusting.

we don't have most of these places in canada... maybe that's why we're better on the obesity rates (only slightly better, mind you--we still have mcdonald's) :Pbut srsly, over 5,000 mg of sodium in ONE MEAL?! that's sooo disgusting, almost twice the RDA in one sitting! has anyone ever tried the flat iron steak? did you wake up pickled?

I've gotten several of these things before, but I never eat them all in one sitting. (I never eat any entire restaurant meal all in one sitting, for that matter.) For example, I have gotten the Tour of Italy before, which I typically have with salad with either low fat dressing or no dressing, so I only eat about a third of it. Then I eat another third with a salad I make at home the next night, then the last third the night after that. I've also split the ultimate fondue with a table of six as an appetizer. None of these things are particularly healthy, but I believe the portion size is what pushes them over the edge.

2/9. I am totally okay with that score. These dishes and I have absolutely nothing to do with each other!
