How to Eat Healthy During the Super Bowl

Smarter Eats: Keep Super Bowl Snacks Off the Table

I'm not a huge football fan, but I have hosted my share of Super Bowl parties over the years. Let's face it, this Sunday is about more than just a big game. There's halftime shenanigans, million-dollar commercials, and, of course, the food.

Super Bowl Sunday is a big day of grazing: chips, Buffalo wings, layered dips, and sliders are pretty standard. Read — not so good for the waistline. Besides offering up some healthy eats, I try to make things healthier by keeping food in the kitchen and out of the living room. By doing so, it forces myself (and my guests) to get up and make a plate when they're hungry — say goodbye to mindless eating!

Well, this year, I will be at work during the Super Bowl and since I don't really care who wins (I will be cheering for the Saints, since they beat the Vikings), I won't be having a party or anything.

Meh. Football finals. Where my family usually go nuts is the season finale of Doctor Who. :p Still. Bowls on the tables or not, I'd nom on the healthy stuff till I filled up, so I'd be less tempted to hit the chips. And I'd have water not softie. I do this at every meal, green first so I eat fewer potatoes. :)

OMG it's the Superbowl! "Bowl snacks" can be on the table. That's where they belong! If you have to get up for anything other than more beer or a bathroom break you are doing it wrong. Even then it is unfortunate because you are either missing the game or the commericals!

We see SBS as a day to indulge, so no real tips here. However, we have made a pact not to buy anything pre-packaged. Chips and candies are generally a burden to your waist-line without great taste, plus there is always stuff left over that you're eating the whole week after. We'll be cooking up all of our indulgences! Making ribs, potato skins, and some yummy desserts! :)
