How Long Will It Take A Mark To Grow Out Of Your Nail?

I'm sure you've all done this before - You're late for work and you're rushing to get out of your car and sh** - you slam the car door on your finger. Or maybe you tried moving a table on your own and dropped the leg on your toe. Besides the unbelievably intense pain, you're left with a little red reminder of your accident - Subungual Hematoma. Unless you're in complete pain for days, you don't need to seek medical attention. Pop a pain reliever such as ibuprofen but don't try to pop a hole in your nail to get the blood out because you could get a nasty infection under your fingernail. Just let it grow out naturally.

I am curious, how long do you think it will take?

LOL, I was just going to do a search on this. Last Thursday, I got rear ended pretty hard on the expressway. I was at my friend's home and wasn't paying attention and slammed the sliding door on my big toe. My toenail got riped BELOW the cuticle line and it is almost lifted up across to the other side. I spoke with a relative who is in the medical field and I believe I'm going to lose the whole thing. I will be grateful if it grows back normal after reading the replies in a good 4-5 months. I just bought vitamins for hair, nail and skin. The funny thing is, it hurt at first and now barely, not like this would.

Slammed mine in the car door, once on Tuesday and then again on Thursday - That wasn't a good week for me. The throbbing pain was unbearable. My nail grew back kinda funky too, Butrfly. weird.

I was closing the car door with my butt, and stupid me, I reached to grab my purse to keep from shutting it. I ended up slamming my finger in the door with my butt, and had a black spot for about 7 months. Rather than the whole nail falling off, a few months later just a hole over the black part fell off. Luckily it was just about grown back for my wedding.

YYYouch! It pains me to even look at this photo. Thank God it's never happened to me. It's so sad when it happens to kids :(

My little man got his finger caught in the back side of a door closing (it was awful), and his nail did end up falling off, but it grew back SO quickly. I was amazed, but little ones :BABY: heal so much faster than us old fogies :FOGEY:.

My mom got her toes caught in ...something...I don't remember, but her toenails grew in really bad...like wood, almost. Wierd! She's probably going to be mad at me if she sees this!

They said my nail would grow back twice as strong...that is a myth...it is the same as my others... I'm all in.

When I was younger I was skate boarding and i went to jump a curb and my hands were down low because i was crouching...I actually got my right ring finger caught between the curb and the wheel of my board...they hd to yank my fingernail off as it was only attached at the bottom...they did NOT use an anasthetic...I still remember what that was like and it was almost 20 years ago... I'm all in.

İ actually slammed my thumb nail into the car door the morning of my wedding. İt was awful! İ spend the entire day with a constant throbbing pain in my hand. İ could barely hold my bouquet! İt took three months for the purple part to grow out and another two for my nail to go back to the same shape.

ughhhh I hate when that happens-I've been a cashier at a furniture store for two years now and my nails get DESTROYED with all the work I do. I'd say, somewhere between 3-7 months. Use a nail growth polish, and eat a lot of Jello to make your nails grow strong and fast.

i coach cheerleading at a local high school (freshmen, they're so cute!), and one of the girls actually slammed her finger in a car door to the point where her nail will fall off in a few days. her doctor told her it would grow back in four months, and that's apparently fast. eek! she actually went to the ER because after she slammed her finger in the door, it bled a lot and she fainted and hit her head on a doorknob or something. at least she's okay!
