The open-face sandwich really seems like a good, reasonable change. I already skip mayo, and hardly ever have soup anyway (though I'm with UrbanBohemia about Clam Chowder - YUM!).

Mayo is gross. I prefer Miracle Whip anyway and I always get the light version. Only 35 calories per 2 tbsp and I might use about a tsp.The open faced sandwiches are a good idea but not very practical if you brown-bag it. As for the no cheese... I WISH! I wish I could say no to cheese but I can't. I have tried and tried but I crave cheese more than I crave chocolate :(

The only cream-based soup I can't say no to is New England Clam Chowder...I was raised on that being from that area. But I only have it in the summers, so I make it count. Otherwise, I follow a lot of these tips (skipping croutons, open-faced sandwiches, holding the mayo, etc.).

Never never have cream-based soups!! The broth-based taste better anyway. And mayo should be illegal... ew.

I always skip mayo (because it's gross) and usually get avocado instead of cheese if I'm buying a sandwich, but otherwise usually cheese is just easier to have on hand. And I never eat cream based soups, only broth based, and I usually skip the croutons if I'm making my own salad or if they come in their own bag. Sometimes I get excited when I see posts like this or articles in magazines. "10 ways to cut calories!" but it seems like it's always the same advice: don't drink juice or soda, swap mayo for mustard, watch for sneaky calories in condiments like ketchup, a salad isn't a healthier option if it's covered it cheese/croutons/dressing. I guess I need to just realize I have all the knowledge I need, and I just need to use it!
