How to Energize Your Mornings, No Coffee or Exercise Required

I always have the best intentions when it comes to waking up early, but I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm not a morning person. There are many reasons why I've been trying to make time for early morning workouts. For one, I wouldn't have to worry about after-work events getting in the way of my workout, and for another, studies have shown that exercising in the morning is the key to burning the most calories.

Most importantly, however, is the fact that exercising in the morning can give you that extra jolt of energy you need to be more productive during the rest of the day.

But if you're like me, sometimes there aren't enough minutes from awake time to commute time to squeeze it all in. Instead of relying on a large dose of caffeine, however, check out my suggestions for energizing your mornings when you've only got a few minutes to spare, after the break.

Five minutes of stretches. I'm not one for leisurely mornings, but it's amazing what just a few minutes of stretching can do for the rest of your day. Try doing these yoga moves you can do while you get ready — it only takes a few minutes of holding each pose to get the relaxing and rejuvenating benefits of these stretches.

Eat breakfast on time. What's the best time to eat breakfast? Research has said that you should eat breakfast soon after you wake up in order to jump-start your metabolism. Not only that, you'll be fueling your body for the morning ahead, so go for a protein-rich breakfast instead of a greasy or carby one; the protein will help keep you full.

Don't hit the snooze. You may think those few precious extra minutes will be worth it, but in reality, you're not going to reap the benefits of hitting the snooze button multiple times. Since you won't be able to go back into a deep sleep, those minutes dozing are minutes wasted. Instead of hitting the snooze button over and over, set your alarm for the time you want to get up, and do it.

Bring on the morning playlist. Put some pep in your step by starting your mornings with your own soundtrack while you get ready — an energizing playlist will quickly lodge you out of dream land and into the swing of things.

I've found energizing music to be a great motivator in the mornings. I have to have my coffee too though! The best combo for me, by far, is a protein bar, some coffee, a workout, and energizing music. Works every time! :)

I just can't get going in the morning without my cup of coffee! I have tried working out and eating breakfast, but never works! I am drugging butt all day if I don't have it. I do do a daily workout and listen to my dance music, but without that coffee it just doesn't happen! Lol

I have an impossible time waking up in the morning. I just shot off my alarm and go right back to sleep! I don't know what to do about that. I've tried putting it across the room, but I still get back into bed.

Nothing like a shower to give me an instant wakeup. When I'm all sleepy and still warm from bed, the last thing I feel like doing is jumping under running water. But there's nothing better to get me going.
I usually am awake before the alarm goes off... but the morning playlist definetly helps me stay awake!!

Thanks for the tips. I'm one of those people that hits the snooze button. Sometimes, every 10 minutes for an hour. How insane is that?
