I Don't Buy It: Weight Loss Sunglasses

I Don't Buy It: Weight Loss Sunglasses

Having a little problem with self-control these days? Fad diets failing you? Have you tried Weight Loss Sunglasses ($18.75)? They're blue-tinted glasses that make your food look dull and boring, so you won't want to eat it.

The website selling these specs says that according to "research" (not sure if anyone scientific was in charge of this study, but OK), blue is the least appetizing color on the spectrum. So the theory here is that if your food looks unappetizingly blue, then you won't want to eat it. If you don't eat, you'll lose weight? Hmm. So my question then is, what's stopping the person from removing those sunglasses, seeing their tasty and now un-blue food, and then devouring every last bite?
Seems like an excuse to wear sunglasses inside to me. Are you buying it? Tell me what you think in the comments section below.

I DEFINATELY BUY! MOST OF YOU NOT BUYING,HAVE OBVIOUSLY NO WEIGHT ISSUES. LISTEN PEOPLE AND ALL YOU CRITICS OUT THERE.. IT'S HOW YOU USE THIS SMART IDEA! SO, YOU DON'T WEAR THESE EVERY TIME YOU OPEN YOUR FRIDGE.. BUT IF YOU ARE EATING OUT WITH FRIENDS OFTEN, THEN THESE GLASSES CAN BE DAMN HELPFUL! ..PLUS IT LOOKS COOL TO WEAR IN A FINE DINE RESTAURANT! 2 TIPS: YOU SHOULD PUT THEM ON, EVERYTIME YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE ABOUT TO CROSS THE RED LINE AND THEY WERE MADE FOR PEOPLE WHO CAN SUPPORT THE LIFESTYLE THEY REPRESENT. MEANING, QUIRKY PEOPLE WHO LOVE DIVERSIFYING AND GETTING OTHER PEOPLES ATTENTION FOR GOOOD REASONS, LIKE HEALTH STAFF ETC.. SIMPLE AS THAT!

From the image and the website, this looks like a Japanese product. Just a shot in the dark, but this might be more effective in Japan. Half of the pleasure for eating (traditionally) was seeing the lovely way in which it was displayed. I don't know how much weight that has now in Japan, but I can imagine food being less appealing to the Japanese if it doesn't look nice.

tlsgirl---I saw that infomercial too! Those foot pads that supposedly rid you of toxins, lol! Gimme a break :) Seriously, products like this are just plain a waste of time and effort. I'm guessing anyone that actually needs them would buy them and just never put them on when they actually wanted to eat. What's to stop you from looking at a plate of blue pizza and then just take the stupid glasses off and pig out??

Why not serve smaller food portions, use smaller dishware, and cook only lower-fat/lower cal food instead?

actually if you'd have done your research properly, you'd know that blue colour supreses appetite and some modern fridges have blue light instead of yellow installed.

I thought that blue was the least appetizing color. That is why there are so few (natural) foods that we can eat, ie not posionous. How many blue foods can you name that come from nature? Yeah I know blueberries but when you think about how many others are there? That said this will probably not work because well people will eat no matter what the color.

I also prefer exercise and self control and I think using blue plates that are a good size to encourage portion control would be more reasonable than spending $18.75 for a pair of blue tinted glasses.

This is about as ridiculous as those silly infomercial foot pads that promise to rid you of toxins.

Aside from re-wiring their brains or intense psychotherapy, I don't think any product can give self-control to those who lack it. This does, however, make food look icky. I think it would just make people depressed about eating their food more than keeping them from eating it.

Hilarious. I mean, I understand that the blue tint would make food look bland, but seriously. I'd rather try to exercise some self-control rather than wear sunglasses at night in a restaurant!
