I'm Sick of Overly Decadent Food Commercials

Fittingly Mad: Decadent Food Commercials

I don't watch a ton of TV, but there are definitely a few choice shows that I hate to miss. The Biggest Loser, of course, is top on my list, but I'm also a fan of The Office. After dinner, when the kids are in bed, it's nice to relax on the couch but there's one problem.

What is the deal with the obnoxiously decadent, food commercials? Pizza, ice cream, hamburgers, all you can eat this, and stuff your face with that! I know it's stupid to get upset about this, but what are they trying to do to us? Well, I know what they're trying to do. They want to tempt us into eating more food (and hopefully theirs). It's just so annoying because I'm trying to be so good and not eat late at night after dinner, but then videos of melted, cheesy goodness flash before my eyes. It's gotten to the point where I change the channel to avoid seeing these kinds of commercials.

What do you think about this? Do these food commercials bother you too, or what? Tell me in the comment section below.

Interesting how many diet programs and drugs as well as cholesterol lowering drugs are being pushed while advertising the very things they are made to combat. It's the television networks making the big $$'s in advertising revenues and confusing people with this pas de deux of subliminal messages which heighten your senses and whet your appetite and then make you feel guilty for indulging afterward. It's the networks that should be held accountable for this healthcare quagmire and should be required to subsidize healthcare coverage for the damage that their junk food is causing.

It is a great commercial for the company. But a terrible one for people's waistlines. Also, I don't even much care for pizza but that commercial somehow made me crave it. I'll bet there are subliminal messages embedded in there somewhere.

It bothers me, too. I think it's an American phenomenon, because most other places in the world I've visited, you don't get bombarded with disgusting food commercials every time you switch the TV on. Only in the U.S. do you see these kinds of ads in the midst of an "obesity epidemic". The problem solved itself for me when I read "Skinny Bitch". Suddenly 90% of the food I saw on TV and at fast food restaurants didn't appeal to me anymore.

I think getting mad about the food commercials is a little ridiculous. If it bothers you turn...otherwise, this is a free economy, and capitalism rules--it's one of the things that makes the USA great. Market your food the way you see fit, as that is how you get customers. And all the better if you commercial is funny enough to make someone laugh and tell their friends, or decadent enough to make me get that for dinner next time i go out...that means the commercial was worth the money sunk into it.

I change the channel too, but it seems like they are everywhere...the only time it really gets to me is when Im watching TV at the gym and a KFC commercial comes on. Cant they just block those? The last thing i want to think about when exercising is junk food!

FitSugar, this drives me crazy as well. Ever since I started my diet (it's been about six months) I get so angry when a commercial for pizza comes on. It just sounds so appitizing. The funny thing is that even when I wasn't dieting, I wasn't really a big fan of pizza.

I rarely watch TV... But I think that some commercials are really funny. They don't work very well with me because I usually remember the joke but not the product advertised or the brand... Some time ago a friend of mine was interviewing people to see if they can match brands and slogans... I completely failed...

fluffyhelen, you lucky thing you! Trying my best NOT to think of all the greasy, yummy foods and then watching a commercial for Pizza hut or KFC- so aggravating! Doesn't help when all you have in your pantry is sensible food- after those commercials, sensible is the last thing on your mind.

Haha I actually really like that commercial, it's stupid but funny. Well those commercials never really affect what I eat unless I'm extremely hungry. And you can't blame the food industry for MAKING you go over to the phone and ordering a pizza. People know what they shoudl or shouldn't eat. A slice or two of pizza isn't horrible for you anyway. So I don't really see anything wrong with food commercials, sorry to say.

haha.. I call it food porn. It seriously helps keep me sane, but I haven't had a pizza or junk in the longest time so I can't really say that I crave it because I've completely forgotten what they taste like. But yeah.. good for the eyes. Food porn.

I don't really even notice them, to be honest. I hate commercials and usually change the channel the minute one comes one. I have seen that one that's posted though and it's pretty silly.

they never bothered me to be honest. as a muslim i can't eat most of that food anyway; recently i kicked off my own healthy eating and exercise regime. i completely cut out all junk food, including chocolate! i live in bradford in the UK, where statistically every second shop in the city is a fast food takeway - no lie! and snacking is out - my own personal detox/rehab if you will. now i just laugh at the adverts because like i totally see them as a ploy to get people to eat badly, but not me mister!
