I'm not too crazy about the idea, but I guess it's better than not walking them at all. I guess... I don't know. I do agree that maybe it's better for those who are unable to walk their dogs for some reason (whatever that may be!) - IMO, it's a cop-out for the owner! Just get up and take your pet for a walk outside...

I agree with those of you who think this is a bad idea. Sure, if your dog is heavy, maybe this would help get them back into shape, but it's no substitute for an outdoor walk. Yes, dogs are domestic, but they're essentially outdoor animals at heart, and should in no way be kept from getting outside and sniffing and exploring. These things, along with those indoor grassy areas and those awful dog strollers make me wonder why these people even have dogs - clearly they don't actually like them! They should just get a cat if they want an animal that doesn't require as much attention or care!

cute idea...but seems much better for both the owner and the dog to just take a walk outside

I still think it is so much better to take your dog outside to walk as well.

My opinion is that if you can't provide a healthy life for your pet (exercise, good food and love etc..) you shouldn't have a dog.

Two things I've always wanted...a puppy and a treadmill!

I think this Happy Runner should only be used as a back-up plan if you can't take your dog for a walk. It's no replacement for actually walking in the grass and sniffing the sidewalk (which dogs absolutely LIVE for), but it's a great option if the pet's owner is unable to take them outside, for whatever reason.

Okay for disabled people who own dogs it's great but otherwise.. get your lazy backside up and go out walking for god's sake!

I think you're a very irresponsible dog owner if you give your dog tons of food and never take him out for a walk. If you decide you want to eat a lot, then that's your decision and you know what the consequences are and you accept responsibility for your actions. A dog, however, does not make those decisions since it's the dog owner that feeds him. The dog can't take responsibility for his own actions. The Happy Runner is a way to cure the symptoms (fat and unhealthy dog), but not to solve the problem (irresponsible dog owner). If your dog is fat, you should feed him less and take him out for walks more. That's your responsibility as a dog owner. If you 'don't, can't or won't take your dog out' for a walk, than you should'nt have one.

I don't know about this..strapping your pet to this contraption and in a way forcing them to walk does not really equate to them getting outside to enjoy the fresh air and all that sniffing and peeing they love. I guess it's a good idea for those days where it's not possible to go on walks but I don't think it's great as a complete alternative to taking your pet on walks. I know my dog would be terrified if I did this to him lol.

I should try this with my dog. Perhaps then he'll stop trying to chew on the cat. Worth a try.

My mom trained her Boston terrier to walk the treadmill during thunderstorms to keep her calm when the thunder booms would get her all tensed up. Didn't take any fancy contraption for grown folks to trip on either. ;)
