Congrats are in order for Nina Davuluri, who was just crowned Miss America. The 24-year-old showcased her talent, brains, and beauty on the stage — as well as the results of a two-year weight-loss journey that helped her drop over 50 pounds. "I realized that I needed to make some serious changes if I wanted to get healthy and feel confident about myself," Nina says on her trainer Tia Falcone's website. "I started changing my eating habits and began taking group fitness classes at the gym. In four months time, I had lost 15 pounds and my clothes were starting to fit me again!"
Over the next year, Nina kept up her weight-loss routine, which involved circuit training, resistance bands, kettlebells, and a healthy-eating plan. The result: a slimdown from 170 to 117 pounds and a newfound confidence that's obviously served her well on the stage. "[T]he most important thing we can do for ourselves is to take care of our health and well-being," says Nina, who also has spoken publicly about her previous struggles with bulimia.
