Organic Milk Does the Body Better

We practically cut our milk teeth on the ads stating, "Milk, it does the body good." Well, there's some new research to add to that tag line – Organic milk is even better for you than conventional milk. Let me clarify even further, organic milk that comes from cows that have been pasture fed is what does the body good. It looks like eating grass and clover, like cows are meant to do (conventionally raised cows are often fed corn or corn based feeds), produces milk with greater amounts of the beneficial omega-3 fatty acids. Milk produced by grass fed cows also contains higher levels of fat soluble vitamins and antioxidants. So drink up and give yourself one of those classy milk moustaches.

As food guru Michael Pollan says, "Not only are you what you eat, but you are what what you eat eats too."

i find it's best to avoid milk COMPLETELY. a) it's disgusting and b) i'm not a baby cow.

I'll have to see the price difference to try it out. We don't use too much milk so it would be good if it lasts longer.

I've switched to organic milk purely because of how much longer it lasts. My fiance and I don't drink it often enough to get rid of even the smallest amount of regular before it spoils - so the extra $$ for organic is completely worth it to be less wasteful..

I only buy organic 1% milk. The Organic Cow is my favorite brand.

Organic milk stays fresher longer because it is UHT paseurized, that is, cooked at a much higher temp than regular milk. The less processing, the less time food stays fresh. Organic milk tends to ship farther and need the extra cooking. Some folks say they can taste a creamier flavor because of the process, not the milk, because a lot of the proteins get denatured. According to the study, a lot of "organic" milk doesn't meet the requirements, and it doesn't say if how the milk is processed helps keep those Omega-3s, which are pretty delicate chemicals. Okay, I'm a locavore geek, I admit it.

My husband jokes that if we have kids any daughters will be raised on organic milk and any boys on conventional stuff with traces of BGH and goodness only knows what else.

I recently switched to low fat organic milk also! It DOES taste much better. Also, when I used to buy the regular milk, it used to start smelling a little funny after only 3 days of being opened! The organic milk seems to stay and taste fresher longer.

Organic milk tastes SO much better than regular, and at this point all milk is so expensive that the price difference isn't that bad.

we switched to organic dairy about 2 months ago. I don't eat or drink a lot of dairy but at least what we do should be good for us!

I don't really have a lot of dairy, but I did want to get some organic milk to make my own Greek yogurt.

Milk is one of the products I will not compromise. Organic or nothing. Organic butter makes a big difference in baked goods, as well.

I only buy milk to use in cooking or to add to something (never to drink). When I do I tend to buy organic even though the taste is no different than non-organic (when bought in carton or plastic). I prefer to get it in glass when I can - taste way better, no paper or plastic taste.

At work, I get half a gallon of organic fat-free milk from Lucky's. I grabbed it by accident. Both the non-fat & organic non-fat milk containers are the same colors. But, I'm glad I made that mistake! Organic milk's so good!! [The fact that it lasts a good while longer is always a plus!] At home though, we have regular non-fat milk. I think, I'll be switching to organic milk at home too though. Especially after reading this.

I've completely switched our family to organic milk as well. We love it. I use skim milk and the brand varies depending on which store I buy it from because they don't all carry or have in stock the one I like. We've been drinking organic milk for over a year now. and Yes, ladychaos, I noticed that too - organic milk does last longer.

I thought so. I've been drinking Organic Lactaid milk for the longest (I can't figure out if its the chemicals in the milk or the lactose that bothers my stomach, so I made a compromise...lol). I drink the Organic Valley in the blue and white container...delicious!! ...plus Organic milk lasts up to two weeks longer than regular, non organic milk...
