Play Quidditch From Harry Potter in Real Life: Quidditch World Cup in New York City

Harry Potter's Quidditch Is the Real Deal

The big premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is almost here, and the trailer is enough to leave shivers down your spine. If the anticipation is stressing you out, take the edge off with a game of Quidditch. That's right, Quidditch. It's the popular team sport from Harry's world of wizards and witches; and except for the flying on broomsticks part, it's sort of like soccer or rugby.

Harry Potter fans are a devoted bunch: they dress the part, read the books over and over again, and find other ways to live in Harry's magical world. For some that means a calorie-burning game of ground Quidditch — make sure to keep that broom between your legs! Since the first game of "Muggle Quidditch" was played over five years ago, the International Quidditch Association was founded, and now there are 700 registered Quidditch teams in the United States, and even more worldwide. The Quidditch World Cup is happening the weekend of November 13 in NYC — what a way to count down to the movie!

I'm not into Harry Potter, so I don't completely get the reference. BUT this is sooo cute, the brooms and the capes with the numbers on them. I really like the way it looks. The fact that they could take a game from a movie and make it real is cool. Fun fitness is the best.

This is at the top of my list of cool things I really need to go to. I played rugby in college so I think I might be able to play Muggle Quidditch...must find team!

Actually, Quidditch (Muggle-style) was first played in July of 2003 at Nimbus, the first large-scale Harry Potter fan-con in Orlando, and it's been played at all the larger HP cons since. Props to the IQA for being organizational, but they weren't the first, and they aren't they only playing style.
