How Many Minutes a Week Do You Exercise?

In 2001, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) recommended that overweight and obese people complete a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise a week to help improve their health and lose weight. That's about 30 minutes a day, five days a week. Now new research is saying that's not enough. Experts are now recommending at least 250 minutes a week, to help drop pounds and keep them off. That works out to 50 minutes a day, five days a week.

i work out at least 420 per week...and Jess8902 when i work out i don't want to eat anything either..all i want is a hot bath and a bottle of ice cold water!

holy crap, most of you guys are hardcore!!!!!!! I just started working out 3 weeks ago, 4 times a week for about 40-60 minutes. So I probably log in 160-240 a week. I'm hoping to increase my stamina b/c I'm trying to drop a jean size.

i do my exercise moderatelyon average, 2-3 hours in a week (total)i hope i can increase it to 4-5 hours :D but sometimes i'm just too lazy

That's weird, Jess. The day after a long run I am STARVING and will eat anything that's not nailed down ;) ... I can only imagine how I'll feel after a 6 hr bike ride...

I go on the treadmill an average of 60 min. a day.. usually I skip one day. And then one long cardio day at 90m. Plus strength 30 min 3x a week. I guess that puts me over 300 too. I just feel so much better when I'm that active. Plus it keeps me from being as hungry. Weird how that works.

I go to the gym 3-5 times a week - about 5-6 hours total, and if it's not raining i commute an hour a day on a bicycle, and do my errands (including groceries!) on a bicycle. Definitely over 300, but it varies how much I go over.

i do a minimum of 150 minutes a week but there are lots of times that it's higher than that. i have a min requirement to myself to go to the gym every day during lunch for at least 30 minutes...and then most weeks i work out for at least an hour if not more on those days, and then it's 1-2 hours on the weekends ...

audrina--well, judging from most of the answers on here, it seems like a LOT of people have enough time to fit in exercise. It's just a matter of priorities...I'm betting most people log WAY more than 250 minutes a week of TV or internet time.

I would do about 800 a week, mainly cycling. I love every minute of it

I'm pushing really hard to lose 20 pounds right now, so I'm exercizing 2 hours a day and logging about 600 minutes a week. I don't recommend this for anyone as I have no life right now besides sometimes seeing my boyfriend on the weekends! However, it's all so I can lose weight and run a half-marathon in May, so it's temporary suffering.

yeah, i'm more than 300 too. i have 2 60 minute training sessions per week (120 mins), i usually do 20 min warm ups (40 mins), and 2 times a week i do an hour of cardio, (120), and i do 1 budokon or yoga class a week with are usually 75 minutes. plus walking and any other exercise i feel like getting.

I get about 10 hours a week. But I don't have to work or do anything else, so I have the time. Between hiking and classes at the gym, and some basketball refereeing...

These new guidelines are CRAZY!!!!!! Noone has that amount of time to work out. It's not going to happen!

I run 45 minutes 4 times a week, yoga 3 times a week (60 minutes each) and cardio barre an 1hr a week. Thats 420 a week! And I was telling myself I wasn't exercising enough!

I used to work out everyday for an hour, sometimes more. so 7-9 hours a week. recently i've been too busy, but i WILL get back into it.

I run 50-60 miles a week which works out to 400 to 480 minutes a week (or up to 8hrs)...I run 7:30 to 8:00 miles for most of my easy miles. That doesn't include any strength training I do or pliates classes I take
