Poll: Do You Wear Undies When You Work Out?

Do You Wear Undies When You Work Out?

When it comes to working out, some of us dress up and some of us dress down, but the remaining question would be what do you wear to the gym underneath your favorite workout wear? The great underwear and workout debate has filled many a locker room with chatter, with both the pro and con factions claiming comfort is the reason they go commando or wear undies. I am sure that this debate informed the advent of those high-tech wicking panties designed to keep your nether regions cool and dry while rocking your heart rate into your target zone.

So I was wondering . . .

As an afterthought, the whole point of underwear is to help keep your outerwear clean (warmth is not an issue in the Gym!), so as you stuff is going straight in the wash afterwards there really appears to be very little point unless you are protecting yourself from nasty seams. It really has no impact on other users.

I am a regular thong wearer (people who say they are not comfy are wearing at least one, maybe tow sizes too small) but for the Gym I don't see the point in double layering so I slip my undies off.. My gym stuff is going to go in the wash as soon as I get home anyway so there is no reason to wear anything underneath. Outside of the gym, if I'm wearing tights I prefer to pay a little more and choose a pair with a cotton gusset (such as M&S Cotton fresh), so again no knickers required.

I wear commandos to the gym (www.gocommandos.com)...I never thought I would go without underwear or a thong but now I do all the time. The commando is a small cotton patch that sticks to the inside of your pants. My doc said the only purpose of underwear is for a cotton crotch. This gives you the cotton crotch without the panties. I thought it was gross when I heard about it but after trying I will never go back. No panty lines, nothing digging in, and soooo comfy!

I never wear underwear, in or out of the gym. Thus, no VPL, ever. I didn't know this was such a debate. I'm just more comfy without.

YES. Sometimes people in the gym sit and just people-watch when they're on break from working out, and I wear shorts for the hot days (practically all of the days), so yes. Undies are a MUST. Besides, ewww, why not wear undies?!

Gross! I'd never have thought anyone DOESN'T wear underwear to the gym. Now I get why people put towels on equipment seats.

Wow I didn't know people were so crazy about this. I personally wear underwear when I workout. Always a thong. I always wear a thong anyway, it's what's most comfortable for me. I know some people hate them, but just like anything else, we've all got our opinions! I don't wear a thong to like Impress people or so I don't have a panty line. It's just what I always wear!

All of my running tights have the liners in there, so I don't wear underwear when I run. Plus, I really don't want to worry about if my underwear is shifting while I run, and the chafing that may comes with it. I rarely wear underwear when I'm teaching dance class, either, but that's mostly because most of my clothes are made of material similar to swim-suits, and I spend so much time moving around that I don't need the extra layers, or again, the bunching factor. I think as long as you're not being disrespectful of other people (letting your butt crack hang out, or not properly wiping down equipment when you're doing with it), then your personal garment choices are exactly that... personal.

I only wear thongs, so I don't really see the issue. I don't get not wearing underwear? Why not? It seems like it'd be totally uncomfortable, not to mention camel toe ;)

i wouldn't feel comfortable if i didn't have anything on under my workout gear. the one thing that frustrates me is that some women are naked people...and in the locker room or the steam room they are lounding around w/o panties - and well..that's just too much for me. i don't want to imagine them working out or doing crunches next to me w/o them.

When I workout at home or do yoga at home, I usually wear the men's boxer briefs, most comfortable things in the world. For running, if they have the lining in the shorts then I usually just wear that, or if I run in yoga pants I'll wear a thong cause panty lines get on my nerves. Not just the sight of them, but it's like I can feel it on my butt and it's annoying. For thongs I love the microfiber ones from dkny or barely there. I honestly have never found them to be at all uncomfortable, g-strings on the other hand I'm so not a fan of.

I wear loose fitting clothes at the gym. Sweats and tee shirts, no one will ever see my panties lines and if they do? oh well! Who really cares? The gym is not a bar or club - the last thing on my mind is panty lines. Ive seen women reapplying makeup before working-out....ummm whatever makes'em feel sexy I guess.

I wear normal hip-hugging underwear. As for thongs, yes I've worn thongs before, but only to go out! They're uncomfortable enough just walking in them, but working out in them? Yuck! Who cares about panty lines, we're here to workout, not to be checked out.
