Relax Already: Clean Up Your Desk

It is Friday and we are all happy about that, for sure. Here's a simple suggestion to clear your mind for the weekend and leave work behind: tidy up your desk before you head home. Nothing puts a "period" on the end of a "run on sentence" of a week like cleaning up your desk. Stack your papers into piles. Organize them while you are at it too. Put all your pens in a cup. Throw away any little bits of refuse and wipe down your desk. If you have any compressed air around clean up your keyboard too.

I truly believe leaving a tidy desk behind me at the office gives me peace of mind over the weekend. I'm going to start stacking my papers right now!!

cravinsugar, I have the same problem. I really need to keep a neat desk and lab bench to keep my brain organized and on task, and the girl I sit next to has a disaster of a desk/lab bench and stuff is constantly spilling onto my desk (or my stuff gets sucked into her vortex because she "borrows" it). But of course, she's the one who looks "busy" which just plain sucks.

I'm scared to clean off my desk, who know's what I will find! It is in such a state right now, it is going to take hours to get it all organized!

Wednesday I mean. I finally got off from Wednesday-Monday. It feels good knowing I will go back to a clean office :)

I do this every evening. Before I leave, I straigten, throw out, shred, etc. Bad thing is the desk i just moved to cubbies are all cluttered. I can't throw any of it away but atleast i don't have to look at it. Also, here is a tip--a colleague at an old project told me not to completey straighten up my desk every night...it makes it look like you aren't doing a lot of work (in my profession want to always look busy) so, I make sure that after i have cleaned up, i take some papers,, and maybe abinder, and leave it out in a position that makes it look like I have been reading, etc. I will also leave a pen, and perhaps a highlighter out next to it, scattered to look natural. On FRidays it would be okay to totally clean up. This is more important with a cube than an office. right now i am in an office so the only people that are SUPPOSED to go in are me and others when i am there, but you know how people are...and our client doens't like us... _________________________________________________________ Why don't you wear the face you have when I am not around?

We are on the same page. I just finished clean off my desk. Then decided to reward myself with a little Fitsugar.

I always have at least a dozen Post Its stuck on and around my desk by the end of the week, so I the first part of my ritual is to throw out the reminders for things I've already taken care of.
