Tofu Comparison: Regular vs Tofuplus

When I dabbled in vegetarian and veganism in college, I came to love tofu. It's so mild, so versatile, and such a healthy form of protein, that I continue to eat it regularly. When picking up a package of my favorite organic extra firm tofu from Nasoya, I saw a new label staring back at me — TofuPlus. It's fortified with vitamins B2, B6, B12, D, and calcium. I drink fortified soy milk, so I thought, "Why not fortified tofu?"

Blindfold me and I couldn't tell you the difference between regular tofu and this new Tofuplus. It has the same firm, spongy texture, takes on the flavor of whatever you add to it, just like the regular tofu did, but the difference is what you can't see. I feel good knowing it contains 20 percent of my daily vitamin D, calcium, and vitamins B2, B6, and B12.

I'm not much of a tofu person, but I like that the TofuPlus has more calcium in it. I'm always looking for good sources of it.

I've never seen the Tofu Plus at a store before. I'm honestly not a huge tofu fan, it tastes and smells like weird pumpkin to me, but I'm trying to find ways to cook it so I like it. This morning I made soy sausage tofu casserole. It was pretty good. Beaner - That's kinda odd that your Super Firm has more protein and calcium. I'm looking at a package of Nasoya Firm Tofu and it says 7g of protein, 10% calcium. It must be the density thing.

I buy the Nasoya Super Firm Tofu that comes cubed, and it has 10 grams of protein, and 15% calcium. Since I eat tofu for the protein, I'll stick with that one. Wonder why this new tofu has only 8 grams of protein. I guess it's not as dense, because it's extra firm, not SUPER firm.
