Short High Intensity Workouts Boost Metabolism

Two Short Workouts as Good as One Long One

Looking to rev up your metabolism? You may want to do two short, high intensity workouts instead of just one. According to Dixie Stanforth, metabolism expert from the University of Texas at Austin, two smaller workouts can be just as effective as one. Why? Well apparently our metabolism stays revved up for at least an hour after a high intensity workout. So you do the math. Two high intensity workouts means that you're able to boost your metabolism for more than two hours. Pretty good for someone who doesn't have a full hour to work out, but can fit in short workouts in the morning and at night.

I was thinking to do this to get in my 300 miles in 30 days. 5 miles in the morning and 5 in the evening. What exactly constitutes a high intensity workout?

I have recently been splitting up my workout into two[2]. It also makes it less of a bore for me. I am having good results with this plan too. Same as before and sometimes less fatigue then one long workout. :)

I used to do this...I would work out before work and then again afterwards. It was kind of a pain though. I prefer to get my whole workout over with at once so I don't have to think about it anymore.

When I do this, I can totally tell the difference in my energy, weight loss, etc. I live really close to home and have a long lunch break so I think its easier for me, but I can understand how people would have trouble fitting two works out in one day. I'd suggest before work and after work though. Shower after your morning workout.

I'm confused... I always hear, " You have to work out for at least 30 min. to get your heart rate up to burn fat". If you only do two 20 min workout's or two 15 min. workouts, are you not getting your heart rate up? Anyone also confused by this?

It's so hard to find time to do just one workout. I'd love to be able to get in two, but I need easier ways so that I'm not having to shower twice each day to get the sweat off.

I was thinking about starting to do this. Do some kind of workout during my lunch break as well as my normal after work sessions. I always feel great after a workout, so maybe now i'll feel twice as great :-)

Good to know, but it's hard enough for me to fit 30/45 minutes into my day to work out. No chance I could add another workout! All the showering, hair drying, etc, takes up almost more time than the working out!
