Grabbing a drink after work is often the default option for catching up with friends. But sometimes, all I really want to do is dish, not drink. Since I'm always struggling to juggle workouts and social outings, lately I've started turning after-work happy hours into walking hours.

Take a page from stroller-pushing moms — especially with this extra hour of daylight — and make a walking date with a friend. Pick a scenic part of town, a waterfront or park trail, or a hilly route if you want a challenge. Lace up your sneakers and spend the next hour walking and talking. It's a great way to vent at the end of a workday, and you skip the empty calories, too.
