Working out in a group class or your one-on-one with a trainer might be serving your highest workout potential, but sometimes you've got to sweat all on your lonesome. It may be easy to go a little lighter on yourself when no one is watching, but you're also the only person who pays the price when you don't hit your fitness goals. If you've been grappling with this dilemma, then here are five tips to keep you motivated when working out solo.

  1. Plan ahead: Make a list of what you want to accomplish from your workout. If you head into the gym without a plan, then you're more likely to skimp on the tough stuff. If you need a place to start, then bring along one of our awesome workout printouts to keep your routine in check.
  2. Get the music pumping: Music has got some pretty incredible powers when you're working out. It can keep you upbeat, motivated, and on a consistent rhythm.   3. Make little goals with yourself: Setting minigoals when you're in the middle of your workout will help you keep things fresh and exciting. If you're feeling a lull in your momentum, then sprint for a minute then give yourself a little breather. Sticking with these self-made goals will also leave you with little bursts of accomplishment that will keep your spirits up.

  2. Lose the excuses: Once you start saying how miserable you're feeling, it's a slippery slope. It's best to keep things positive, and say au revoir to negative thoughts about your workout when they pop into your head. They're only hindering your mission.
