Topshop Releases Line of Cycling Gear For Female Cyclists

Cool or Not: Topshop Designing Cycling Gear

After invading New York retail, Topshop is now invading the world of cycling gear. According to the UK Telegraph, this week the fashion-forward retailer is releasing a line of biking shorts, jackets, and accessories for female cyclists. The edgy, brightly colored goods were designed by Cyclodelic and will be available in the UK. British safety experts caution that hats and headscarves are no substitute for helmets, but I'm loving the bags in particular. Would you pick this stuff up?

Agree with misskacie. I'm not a fan of Topshop in terms of value or quality, but anything that makes an active lifestyle widely accessible, and encourages anyone to get out there and do something active, should be commended. If that happens to be fashion slaves or Topshop fans or tweenies, so be it, and good on them! Those that aren't impressed/are 'serious cyclists' need not buy, and I don't think that's the Topshop market anyway...Next step: cheaper bikes...

I would most definitely not buy cycling gear from them. The quality of the Top Shop clothes I had didn't justify the price and when I'm sweating my butt off for 5 hours straight in middle of nowhere, I want top quality and don't even care about how I look like and I'm pretty sure neither does anyone else that meets me. I buy what feels comfortable and durable. I do have a pretty metallic-light-blue helmet, though, and not even one piece of cycling gear I have is color-coordinated with it!

I ride my bike several times a week around SF (not a serious cyclist, just back and forth to Trader Joes and such) and anything bright and eye catching is good! A bike messenger told me that my clothes and bag were too dark and I needed to wear something brighter if I was going to be riding my bike at night in the city.I just hope they have some performance aspect to the clothes.

its a cute idea, but i dont think serious cyclists would wear this gear. I think it would be good for cruisers or something. at least its comfortable and cute when you just want to go on a 5 mile ride or something.

I think anything that encourages anyone to get out there and do it, or makes the gear more accessible, is good. I hope more girls think cycling is stylish. They can always upgrade to better gear if they get into it later. As far as what anyone else thinks what a cyclist wears/looks like-- WHO CARES?!
