Training For a Race Keeps You Motivated

Are You Training For a Race?

Back in my dancing days I was always rehearsing for a show. Knowing I would be performing in front of a live audience helped me keep my eyes on the prize. I rehearsed hard. I took technique class religiously. But times have changed, and though the stage no longer calls me I do like the structure of a good race.

I must confess though, I have yet to sign up for upcoming races this season. While I am pretty diligent about working out regularly (let's face it — it is easier to stay in shape than get back into shape), with no race day looming in my future it's easier to skip that 6:00 a.m. spin class. I find that I am not pushing myself as I normally do once springtime hits, so I know I will be sealing the deal and paying the entrance fee for a sprint triathlon soon . . . and a 10K too. Now that I have 'fessed up, what's your story.

kinda. I'm actually training for a $10,000 CF scholarship :). If I'm selected as a finalist I'm timed on a 1.5 mile run. so basically whoever runs the fastest gets the scholarship. and i want it. bad.

I just finished training for my first marathon and ran it last Sunday. It was amazing, but now I am race-less in the future.

I'm 5 weeks from my first half marathon! I'm loving how the training plan keeps me accountable.

I'm training for my first half marathon. Today is the beginning of week 3 of a 12 week program. I haven't signed up yet b/c the fee is pretty high and I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep up with the program or not so I'm waiting until week 7 or so to commit. So far so good!

I signed up for three races this spring, but had to back out of two due to knee problems. I'm hoping that the third, a ten-miler, will go on without problems!
