Unitards: A Comeback You're Following?

Unitards: A Comeback You're Following?

Recently I have noticed a rather interesting trend at my gym: The Unitard. Yup, just like the days when Jane Fonda's Workout was queen, I have seen several unitards (being worn by some brave souls I may add) making their way onto the cardio equipment.

If you're loving the unitard look (pictured above), check out the one that American Apparel sells for $32.00.

What do you guys think -- Would you workout in a unitard?

It reminds me back to my dance company days... though I don't have the body for it anymore, I would probably still wear it, though with an 80s inspired t-shirt with the neck cut off of it to show a little shoulder :) In all seriousness, I tend to like wearing spandex during my workouts simply because I don't have to worry about loose shorts bunching/riding up. But in no way am I wearing the thongs OVER the spandex shorts like in those horrid 80s workout videos. P.S. Did anyone see that skit with Drew Barrymore on SNL a few weeks back?! They even added in the VHS blurs that would happen when the tape would bunch up. Gotta love the 80s!

Lord have mercy. Wasn't it bad enough in the 80's?

I would wear it in my home gym, but not in public. I think it'd be nice not to have any loose clothing or clothing that bunches up, rides up, or otherwise creates uncomfortable situations.

iffermay, I am going to let Giggle handle explaining this one as she has already created a rather visual piece on the infamous camel toe. Enjoy!

Everything old is new again. I taught aerobics for 22 years, so I owned my share of them (see the movie "Perfect"). Fitness fashion is a lot of times inspired by dancers, so it doesn't bother me that it's back. The gym is full of bad workout wear. 22 years of health clubs, I've seen some things and unitards aren't the tip of the iceberg. At least they keep most of your body covered so you're sweat isn't seeping all over the equipment. LOL

Wow. i had to wear those when I was performing as a modern dancer back in the day. My hope was that the choreography would keep me moving - really fast when I was onstage. Those things are just really unflattering. Seriously!!!!

I'll wear unis for working out, but I think they run the risk of looking dorky outside exercising.

I would never work out in a unitard but I do own a couple of American Apparel unitards like this one but I wear them to layer under tunics and dresses in the winter.

Just say no to camel toe.... _________________________________________________________ Why don't you wear the face you have when I am not around?

I would try it out for a good laugh and then I'd probably tell myself to simma down now and I'd go jump in the pool to cool myself off.

Oh goodness, those things should only been worn underneath loads of layers to keep warm in the winter.

I have a few unitards, but they are strictly for dance classes. I couldn't imagine wearing them in real life.
