Victoria's Secret Bras Causing Rashes?

Victoria's Secret Bras Causing Rashes?

Victoria's Secret is to bras what Kleenex is to tissues. This company is well-known for its amazing lingerie, but recently there have been many complaints from women who wear its bras. They say they've worn Angel Secret Embrace Bras and Very Sexy Extreme Me Push-Up bras, and experienced itchy rashes, hives, and permanent scarring. One woman, Roberta Ritter, filed a lawsuit against Victoria's Secret, and when her lawyers purchased the same bra and sent it to a lab for testing, they found it contained formaldehyde. Many companies add this chemical to fabrics to make them crease resistant. Although Victoria's Secret said it never used formaldehyde in its products, it may have been added in the manufacturing process. This chemical is most likely the cause of the allergic skin reaction experienced by Roberta and dozens of other women.

For more information, check out this video clip from Good Morning America, of Diane Sawyer talking to reporter Andrea Canning on the details.

I know finding the right bra can be traumatic, but shouldn't be scarring. Have you experienced anything like this?

My skin splits open when I wear any strapless that has a thin tube shaped silicone nonslip edging around the inner cup. I don't wear VS, btw. But brand doesn't matter. Anyone else with this reaction?

This is so crazy, my mom and I have had these little bumps on our torso and back and couldn't figure out what it was. I switched our laundry detergent, soap, and tried a couple of different creams, but it always seemed to come right back. I never thought it could be related to my bra, but I'm so happy to finally know what's going on. Thanks fit!

I had this happen to me too. I've owned many VS bras over the years, but one of the pushup bras I purchased was making me break out in little red bumps that itched. It took me a little while to determine it was tied to the one bra, but once I did I threw it out. And this was after washing - numerous times. Pandacn - I love the Intimissimi bras. Stumbled upon them a couple of years ago and have slowly been switching over to their brand because they are just a much better fit. They have really cute designs, too.

You know I never thought it was the bras I thought it was me, maybe I was sensitive, or maybe my hormones were changing because it happened when I was pregnant but the area under my boobs and around still flare up til this day and I dont believe I was ever able to pin point it to a bra, however around the time of last year ad maybe about a year and a half ago I purchased a secret embrace bra to alieviate my expanding chest cavity and ever since I have had rashes and flare-ups and I am scarred all over.

I've had the same problems years ago. I thought it was just my over-sensitive skin. Since I've switched to Calvin Klein, I haven't had the same problem.

I grew up with my mom always telling me that I should only wear cotton bras. Even though that's a hard rule to follow, it has stuck with me and to this day, I still only wear cotton bras. I love VS. They have great cotton bras and it's not very expensive. It's hard to find cute cotton bras, but Intimissimi has great ones.

One of their bras, their push up without padding line I found extremely irritating on my skin. I was left with red and itchy splotches where the bra sat, not pleasant. But others of theirs I have had no problem with. I actually have one of the bras in the video and it has never caused me a problem.

francois and pink ~ yup, same here, I love to just window shop there and gawk at the amazing designs, but it's just too darn expensive! I like to wear pretty lingerie designs, just can't afford it from that store. I think half of the price you pay at VS is for the 'feel-good'-feeling that you actually bought a VS bra. But you can get that from just walking around there too, which is cheaper and what I do ;)

Oh holy cow - this explains what I've been dealing with! I've washed my bras many times, including before I wore them, so I didn't even think it could be the bras. I'm so glad to know the cause though!

Yup! Same thing happened to me. I broke out in awful hives and they didn't go away for weeks. It was soo terrible

This is creepy I bought a new VS bra just last month, I washed it before I wore and a few times since and it has started to agitate me. It makes me itchy. I saw a news story on it and it's not in my head.

i heard about that - and it's kind of scary to think about a company that is so well known for what it does and there are all these issues from a mistake.

I don't wear VS bras because the ones I did buy from them seemed to fall apart pretty quickly, but I've never had a bra give me a rash. I did have a strapless bra once that left red lines on my chest because it was probably too tight, but the lines went away once I took the bra off.

Good thing I don't like Victoria's Secret. Their lingerie has gotten so chintzy.

I ALWAYS wash my clothes before wearing them, and this happened to me as well - I had owned the Secret Embrace bras for about 2 months, and I went on a weekend trip and all of a sudden broke out in a horrible rash that completely covered where the bra touched my skin, and even followed the outline of the bras. When I got home, I knew it was something to do with the bras, so I quit wearing them and the rash went away really quickly. I will never buy that style again.

If you're allergic to something in the fabric of a bra, then buy a different bra. Like if you're allergic to nuts, just don't eat nuts.

That's kinda freaky. I mean, I wear VS and have never gotten a rash, but ew.

ok. first of all, you should always ALWAYS wash clothes before wearing them. just think, if some woman tries on a bra and has ringworm, and then you buy the bra she tries on and wear it without washing it, you will have ringworm. Is this Victoria's Secret fault? no. And i'm not saying that they should be soaking their bras in formaldehyde. which their not. but they should defiantly look at the manufacturing plants that are producing the bras or see where they are buying their fabric.

Can't wear VS anyway, got a little bit more up there than *they* allow ;) But I always have an issue with bras and underwire. It's always the underwire that's the first to go. It's so upsetting (and scarring! who wants to be POKED in the underarms and boob by a sharp object all the time)!
