Walk Faster For Weight Loss

If you're walking for weight loss then you may want to step up your pace. When walking on a level surface, the faster you go the more calories you'll burn. I know this is common sense, but we can all use a little reminder every now and again. To see what a 150 pound person can burn from walking at different speeds then

.

A 150 lb person can burn the following:
Pace Calories Burned
2 MPH: walking at a leisurely pace 102 calories per hour
3 MPH: walking at a moderate pace 190 calories per hour
4 MPH: walking at a brisk pace 272 calories per hour
5 MPH: walking at a super fast pace (basically jogging) 476 calories per hour

So step it up (pun intended) and burn more calories!

This is great. I will have to send this to my mom, as she always likes to "stop and smell the roses" when we go walking.

I'd just be careful to point out that the calories burned per hour doesn't factor in the calories burned if you were just sitting on the couch. So don't plan to eat what you've burned & come out even.

I do fast walking on the treadmill..accompanied by the use of incline to increase the burn. I do about 2-3 minute intervals moving the incline up and down and keeping the pace very brisk...almost a jog. This has been working so great for me!
