How do you know the safe way to "calorie cycle"? Is there a certain range you should stay between and time limit?

The calorie cycling is a good idea. That's how I justify my cheat meals, though I'm not good at dropping on other days! ;) Another thing I have read about is carb cycling. We all know that carbs aren't evil, but cycling them can help too. I personally don't do this because I fear that I'd go carb crazy after one or two days of South Beach style meals.
