I just read a little over at iVillage about how celebs stay slim while dining out. For many starlets the answer is lean protein and lots of veggies or taking their dressing on the side. There are many techniques for how to enjoy dining out without compromising your waist line.

How about you...

I have so many rules when I decide to dine out:- I stick with water as my beverage. (Sometimes a lemon wedge for flavor.)- I allow myself 1 piece of bread (if any), but don't add butter.- I order my salad with non-fat dressing on the side. If they don't have non-fat dressing I ask for lemon wedges.- I only eat 1/2 of the portion and either take the rest home, or give it to my bf to eat.- I stay away from things that are fried or covered in rich, creamy sauces.- If I'm going to a food chain restaurant, I check out calorieking.com or dietfacts.com and plan my meal out before going to the restaurant. (It'll give me a better idea of the nutrition facts and what to expect.) I'll also check out the website.Yea, I'm a little OCD about this, but it's totally worth it to remain on track.

Hmmmm lets see... 1. I order a salad with dressing on the side. 2. No bread basket... okay, maybe just ONE piece. 3. I exchange the carb sides (mashed/ baked potato or rice) for a veg. 4. Drink water, no pop or wine. 5. Everyone at the table shares a dessert! Its perfect, a couple bites for everyone!

if i'm on a diet i order something that does not compromise my diet :) that's easy. and usually i dine very rarely so it will not ruin my diet anyway.

I do a little of each, depending on what's on the menu. If they have fabulous fresh baked bread, I'll have that and pass up the carbs on my dinner... but if I want pasta I avoid the bread basket. You gotta be flexible.

There is nothing more boring than an obvious dieter! I just steer clear of the bread basket unless the restaurant has amazing bread (too many calories spent on blah bread...) and then either order an appetizer as my entree or split my entree in half. I find it better to eat a small portion of what I really want than to order the grilled fish and veggies and not enjoy it at all.

I usually order salad with lean chicken and light or no dressing if possible. I usually don't eat all of it so I let myself eat some of the bread basket :)

i really look forward to going out to eat, so i don't really worry too much about it when i do. since we don't have tons of money, my boyfriend and i will often split an entree, thus keeping the price and the calories down. and since we're both vegan, dessert is never even an option at 99% of restaurants. we stick with water, too. i always go for the bread though, but i figure since i eat reasonable portions and don't get dessert, a little bit of bread is alright.

I don't dine out as a daily option to eat when I'm hungry. When I'm dining out, it's a treat and I'm going to go all out. If I splurged on a meal while out, I just make sure to watch what I eat the rest of the week. No more splurges.

I eat light during the day if I know I'm eating out somewhere. And once I'm there I'll draw a line dividing everything on my plate in half.

I try to eat only half of what's on my plate, so I can have yummy leftovers. If I am not going straight home, and I can't carry the leftovers, I still get a to-go box and I give it to a homeless person.

All of the above. However, if I'm a great restaurant, I'm going to eat and enjoy myself. I have trouble with bread baskets, but I'm lucky in that I never eat everything on my plate and I can order dessert, have two bites, and be happy. But I really hate it when the waiter makes some comment to you if you only eat half and less than that of your plate.

I do a lot of these things. I always have dressing on the side even at home (I'm a fork dipper). I never eat apps, dessert, and if I get an entree I only eat half. Plus I talk a lot so I tend to eat slowly and pay attention to how full I am. I also only eat bread at a few places I can't turn it down (Texas Roadhouse and Olive Garden). I traveled four nights a week for work this summer so I had to make a whole lifestyle change to keep the weight off.

I eat half of what's on my plate (or less) and drink water if I want dessert or appetizers.

I don't ever order dessert and rarely order appetizers. From there, I try to do something I read about in the Zone diet...when my food arrives, I immediately ask for a box and put half in. That way, there's only half left on my plate before I even begin!
