What Healthy Habits Are Hard For You to Stick With?

Speak Up: What Healthy Habits Are Hard For You to Stick With?

Every time I go to the dentist, the hygienist asks the million-dollar question, "Have you been flossing every day?" I know she can tell by looking at my teeth and gums that the answer is no, but I think she asks just so I feel bad enough to actually remember to do it. I know it's recommended to floss at least once a day, but for some reason, I can only remember to do it a few times a week, which is why flossing daily is one of my healthy goals for 2010. Tell me, what healthy habit to do have a hard time keeping up with?

My posture. My upper back/neck/shoulders KILL because of the hours I spend reading or hunched over the computer writing.

I have started using this Reach Access flosser with disposable heads that my dentist gave me. It makes flossing much easier and less of a chore.

The absolute sole one is sleeping at least 8hrs each day; everything else is easy peasy and I love flossing

I hate flossing! I hate hate hate flossing! It makes my gums bleed, which is a consequence of not flossing! :( I;m also really slack about going to the gym unless I'm at uni, I use the uni gym all the time because it's cheap and clean, but the trek is too far from home now.

I floss when there is something noticeable in there. It's usually every few days as I have veneers on 2 of my teeth & like to keep my investment clean !

Drinking my water every day. I have been REALLY good so far this year, but it always feels like a chore or some sort of torture to down my 2 liters a day. I do feel better when I do it, but I wish I hated it less. And no, nothing helps...I've tried putting cucumbers, lemons, oranges, limes, etc. in it and it's still ordinary blah water.

I hate having to do anything hygiene-related before bed. When I'm ready to go to sleep, nothing stands in the way of me and my pillow! It's a good day if I brush my teeth before I fall asleep, and I always have raccoon eyes in the morning.

As of last week, it was flossing. I've resolved to make it a habit after my terrifying dentist appointment last week! Preventative care people!

Getting up and moving throughout the day!! I work in an office, so I always tell myself that I should stand up and walk around for a few minutes every hour, otherwise I will sit for 4 hours straight. I have the hardest time remembering though...When I get up for lunch to go to the gym, I always think "I should set a pop-up reminder to go off every hour that just says 'stand up'"

Resisting sweets and drinking enough water. I do okay with water during the work week when I am sitting at my desk, but it's something I constantly have to think about. Since the beginning of January I've been trying to drink a glass first thing in the AM, right before bed, with every meal, and throughout the day. It's getting better... But I really need to get better at resisting sweets. I generally keep a very healthy diet, but when sweets are in front of me, I can't resist, and end up beating myself up over my indulgence!

Eat more fruits and veggies. I was actually doing really well until I got braces. Now it's pretty much a no no to eat most veggies raw unless they're grated small (and they'll still get caught!) I'm not a fan of most cooked veggies but love soup so I'm trying to do more soup, but it's still nowhere near what I should. As for flossing, well just over a year ago I had to fork over $3000 for a root canal and crown on a tooth because of a cavity that could have been prevented by flossing. Ever since I've been religious about it. Good thing, because now that the flossing is even more of a pain (braces) it feels wrong to skip so I still do it.
