What Is Your Number One Health Concern?

We are all similar in that most of us have health on the brain, but we differ in our reasons for striving to be healthy. A lot of us are concerned about our weight, but for many of us, getting healthy is far more deep-rooted. For example, someone who has a history of cancer in the family may be more concerned about preventing it, while others are living with diseases themselves. I'm curious: What's your main health concern?

I eat well, exercise, I'm not overweight (not skinny, but healthy), and I don't smoke or live with anyone who does. I do worry sometimes about cancer, because my aunt and uncle both died of it, but I know that a lot of both of their problems were lifestyle and environmental. I don't find it shocking that a man who was exposed to agent orange, never went to a doctor, and smoked pot daily for his whole life died of esophageal cancer.

My main concern right now is my weight and digestive system. I was on a terrible diet a year ago last summer. Something went terribly wrong and I have been dealing with it since them. My family doctor thinks there is nothing wrong with me. I desperately need to see a gastroendocrinolist to find out what exactly is wrong with me. But my family doctor has to refer it out and he wont cause he thinks there is nothing wrong with me. Which I definitely know there is a problem. Also breast cancer scares me so badly I am paranoid about it. There is so much breast cancer these days, its seems like we all might get it. It is a terrible epademic right now. And no, chemo is not the solution to this terrible disease.

I said long life because that best summed up my true concern which is optimal overall health so I can live a long, active life!

Actually, I take it back. Right now it is my intestinal health because I swallowed the tip of a plastic fork by accident during dinner! I hope I am OK!

At the moment: Weight control & Cervical Cancer (had a little scare last year). I'm sure as I get older it will be all of the above.

It's a combination. I'm not very tall and I try to keep the excess weight off (which is also bad for my back) and I'm at high risk for breast cancer and high blood pressure runs in my family.

For me, it's heart disease and osteoporosis. My grandpa had 4 heart attacks in his lifetime and my dad, sister and I all have genetic hypercholesterolemia. My sis and I have only a mild form of it and we don't need statins (yet), so we're both very concerned with keeping our cholesterol in check and being sure to start an aspirin regimen as soon as our doctors recommend it. And both of my grandmas have osteoporosis and I fit all the risk factors for it (Caucasian descent, thin, female, small-framed). I don't want to deal with fractured hips or whatever when I'm old.

Cancer, runs in the family, and even if it didn't the chances of getting it are awfully high.

Weight control, which I'm managing well. Obesity runs in my family. It triggered a host of medical problems such as heart disease, diabetes, osteoarthritis, high blood pressure (which lead to kidney damage), high cholesterol, etc. Obesity is so problematic!Thankfully, I'm very fit and lean, and most likely, will side step a lot of those conditions. Our family doctor is very proud of me.

Weight loss and control for me. Most of the other problems that I have/may possibly have can probably be managed or staved off by losing weight. So that's my main concern right now.

ALL OF THE ABOVE? Who wants to have to deal with any of those? Really? My grandad died of a heart attack and my other grandad has terminal cancer. I'm worried about them all.

I know breast cancer runs on both sides of my family and my mom is in her late 50's and has NEVER had a mammogram before and hates going to the dr. and even though both my sister and I have strongly urged her to do this not just for us but also herself, she has simply refused to go. I've expressed this concern to both my dr. and my dad and they've both tried to push her but she won't go ):

My concern is heart disease, especially since my family has a huge history of it. Although I hate needles, I know I'll have to be consistent with getting blood work done often, just to keep on top of things.

Def cancer, I am so afraid of getting cancer and having my life cut short. I would hate watching the people I love lose me =( I am a very healthy person now - drink in moderation, eat healthy, exercise, lots of sleep, keep stress levels as low as possible, etc. But, I still worry that I could be fine one day and sick the next. I know I am just a bit paranoid, but I am very concerned about it. I try to keep up my healthy habits and consume antioxidants like crazy! That's all I can do, and hopefully that is enough!

Alzheimers. It runs in the family pretty badly, so I'm all about learning and eating right, staying away from aluminum and getting sleep. Sudoku every day! I eat alot of brain foods too, but I still worry.

My number one is controlling my asthma by making sure I do enough cardio, get enough water and take my meds regularly. Number two is weight control, if just happens to go hand in hand with most of my asthma stuff. Number three is mental health, because I know I'm not quite all there... %)
