When You're Stressed Out, What's the First Thing to Go?

When you've got too much going on, something's gotta go. Unfortunately, we often sacrifice our healthiest habits in times of stress. When you're under pressure at work or in your personal life, what's the first thing you usually neglect?

I avoid people when I'm stressed. I no longer turn to ice cream to make me feel better and abandoning exercise just makes me feel worse. A good session on the yoga mat usually works wonders! A good night's sleep works too, just like Frenched said. I know people say 'Don't go to bed angry' when you're having a tiff with your other half, but for me once I wake up I realize it was absolutely not worth it and both of us end up talking about it, and apologizing.

Sleeping is ABSOLUTELY not a challenge for me. I find that I SLEEP more when I'm stressed because when I wake up I find that I view things in a different perspective. I usually feel more relaxed and can actually see the "big picture." But, if sleeping is not an option, I definitely forget about my healthy eating habits and just gulp down a 500-calorie milkshake, which is definitely not good and only makes me feel worse afterward.

socializing. I become a hermit when I'm stressed. I need to make my outlet the gym...benifits all around! :)

Sleep. I have such trouble sleeping anyway that stress only makes it worse.

probably socializing, since i tend to get very anxious and grunmpy when stressed!

Socializing is the first thing that goes for me. I mean, I love hanging out with my friends and family, but when I'm really stressed, I can usually send them quick emails or call them really quick instead of going out with them. I'd say that I never sacrifice my workouts or my food...keeping those things constant helps me deal with my stress a lot better.

Exercising is the first thing I do, it helps work out the aggression, but then I'm always reaching for comfort carbs, so the eating part of the equation is the first thing to go.

Exercise is the first thing I DO when I'm stressed. The first thing to go for me would be socializing....

I usually try to write out a "to do" list when I'm really stressed so that I have my priorities on paper.

I suppose healthy eating, but not by much really. Just a little more indulging. I like to go out for a run and just focus on my breathing and music. It's a great way to forget everything.

The only thing to go for me is sleep and that is NOT voluntarily :( When I'm stressed I just don't sleep well..... Exercise and healthy eating is what keeps me level-headed and helps me get through the stress! Not to mention great friends!!

When I'm stressed, I start to lose sleep first, which then causes me to be too tired to workout and I start to eat more to compensate for feeling so tired. I have found that working out at night and doing yoga followed by a bath is the best way of getting myself calm enough to actually sleep when I'm stressed out.

Mine would probably be socializing. Most of my friends are far away, and I keep up with them on Facebook, but the frequency of getting together with a group on the weekends definately dwindles with a crappy economy or lots of stress.
