Are You a Night Owl?

Sleep is often the first to go when our busy lives go into overdrive, but it's essential to our overall health to get consistent sleep and enough of it. Getting plenty of z's can help you achieve and maintain a healthy weight, not to mention it can prevent catching colds and protect you from heart disease.

Getting to bed at a decent hour is more difficult when you're a night owl. Your body wants to stay awake but you know that sleep would serve you well — your alarm goes off at the same time, no matter when you hit the sack. Do you call yourself a night owl?

I swear, I must be genetically predisposed to my intense night owl tendencies. My grandmother, my mother and I were all online chatting one night back when I was in college. It was 2:30 AM. This week, I've been on a regular schedule of hitting the hay at 4AM and getting up between 10-11AM. Luckily, my grad student lifestyle lets me do this.

Count me among the night owls. I've been one ever since I was a little kid. No matter how many days a week I try to get up at 7, it's just not happening. My body was simply not designed to function before 8 or 9 a.m. As I explain, I live the same life as everyone else: I have a job, hobbies, husband, cats, etc. I just prefer to live that life from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. instead of 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. At 10, I'm just getting started!

i am the biggest 'night owl' which isn't to good when i have early morning classes and/or work... but i'm so much more energized and alive after midnight i force myself to go to bed. perhaps things will change as i get older...perhaps :)

Totally a night owl. In a perfect world I would work the graveyard shifts and sleep in the day. The night is my favorite time. It sucks though because I try to sleep early but I can not. It seriously has effected my health :(

I am a total night owl. I find myself waking up around 4pm and really being productive in the second part of the day. I do not have insomnia, I just find I have so much to do, and I get most of it done in the late afternoon-evening. But of course I am dead the next day. My New Years' resolution was to be in bed by 10pm. So far I've been pretty good - not passing 10:30.

I'm a night owl, if I had my way, I'd be up until 2 or 3 and in bed until 10 or 11. Even though I have to get up around 7 this semester for classes, once the weekend comes I completely revert to staying up late. Luckily, the firm I worked for after college, people didn't get to work until 9:30 or 10, and we stayed until 7 or 8, which totally suited me. I hope to god I can find a job like that after law school. And never have kids. :)

Complete night owl. It doesn't matter how tired I am at 4pm, I'm wide awake and ready go at 10pm.It's even worse now that I have kids because that's my only 'me' time all day and I want to make the most of it.

I rarely sleep. I can go days without sleeping. And I can mentally and physically function just fine.

It depends...if I have to get up early, I can do it with no problem. But I prefer to stay up later and wake up a bit later. My job involves working different shifts, so sometimes I have to be up at 5 and other days I don't start work until 2 pm, so it really messes with having a regular schedule.

I am not a night owl. When dusk comes the cave-girl in me wants to curl up in a ball and go to bed. But I am an INSOMNIAC and it sucks.

night owl by nature, morning person by nurture.i like to leave work and have a couple hours of daylight (outside sports), so in the winters, i get to the office at 5am. but if work weren't an issue, i would probably be up until 2 each night, and sleep until 10. i love the late late night...for the same reasons i like the mornings, actually (quiet, peaceful) but i'm with feesje...i just have more energy at night, in general.

I'm a night owl in a sense that I have far more energy at night than I do in the mornings. It's unbelievably hard to get up every single morning; I snooze for about 45 minutes...
