In-N-Out Burger Expands to Dallas, Texas Area

In-N-Out Burger Affirms It's Expanding — to Texas

Is In-N-Out, the cult California burger chain lauded by the likes of David Chang and Peter Meehan, finally becoming a national standby? Well, while the hamburger chain isn't expanding to the Eastern Seaboard just yet — it has unveiled plans to open in Texas.

D Magazine first broke the news that In-N-Out would be opening its first Lone Star location in Garland, a suburb of Dallas. The Irvine, CA-based fast food chain is known for its not-so-secret basic menu and fresh, high-quality ingredients; it holds the cachet of Manhattan's famed Shake Shack, only with the efficiency of a McDonald's. Yet the family-owned business, which doesn't even accept franchisees, has been reluctant to expand beyond the West Coast. According to Carl Van Fleet, In-N-Out's Vice President of Planning and Development, the company is building a new meat facility to service its Texas locations.

Van Fleet also told Eater that while opening dates have yet to be determined, "We continue to work on a number of site opportunities in the DFW market." I'm shocked that the chain is expanding to Texas, although I think Whataburger could use some competition. What do you think of In-N-Out?

With all that cheese and oil what the hell is the point of adding lettuce and tomato?

I lived in Texas, tons and tons and tons of red meat restaurants. More steak houses and burger joints than I ever saw in California or even here in Florida. The bigger cities (like Dallas) are similar to LA and Chicago, lots of variety, but the smaller places aren't always like that. I would have LOVED to live near Dallas, I've heard good things about it. :) Ever been to Corpus? I admit, for the most part, people were very nice where I was. There were nutty drivers, but not any worse than what I was used to in California :P I really liked the area I was in, but I had to cook at home more because of the lack of options. Healthier anyway :)

You are so right! We sure do LOVE our state!! That's the beauty of being a Texan-American! Pride in our state, our country, our friends, our families & pretty much everything else in our lives! Our great state history combined with our southern pride and loving family values; are all part of what makes Texas so great! Not to mention: the Texas economy is at the top of the list in all the states of our great nation.. We must be doing somethin right! :) And I'm not sure why y'all think that we have too many "red-meat" restaurants.. We also have one of the most diverse and expansive food markets here in the Dallas area. We have some of the best high-end (and economical) organic and health food markets, as well as some AMAZING Vegan and vegetarian restaurants! Next time you come to Texas we invite y'all to take a deeper look!

Texas already has a ton of steakhouses and other meat-filled restaurants/fast food, they could benefit from healthier food choices. My bf and I joked so much when we were there that people have too much pride for Texas. Texas shaped everything! Potato chips, waffle irons, cheese platters, chip bowls, the flag on EVERYTHING. There's even a site for it: http://texasshaped.tumblr.com/ :P

HEY LEELUV AND DANAK.. What is wrong with Texas? I am a PROUD Texan and I just wonder what it is that you are referring to when you saying "That's just what Texas needs.. another red-meat serving fast food joint" & "that whole state has issues". That's kinda rude, don't ya think? Anyway.. I LOVE In & Out and I'm so freaking excited it's coming to Dallas!!!! The only time I get to eat it is when I visit NV or CA. Thanks In-n-Out!!!!!!!!!

I love In-N-Out. My best friend and I stop their whenever one of us has to leave Cali, as it's on the way to the airport. I can't tell you the number of times after and extended time away from Cali that one us us has gotten into the car and said take me to In-N-Out. I'm a little surprised how many of the other burgers I could identify. I mean Wendy's and white Castle are givens with their square burgers and McDonald's Big Mac as I've seen them on commercials my entire life, but I'm surprised I knew the difference between a Quarter Pounder and a Whopper.

Those 3x3's are a lot of food. I once cooked an 8x8 (8 meat, 8 cheese). It was so big that my hands couldn't wrap it, a guy had to come help me out. They changed the rules, 4x5 max now because the quality goes down after that. I know I sound nitpicky, but I was "raised right" by the company. I just want to tuck the lettuce in on both and push in the tomato on the 2nd :P Quality first!

By the way, I still can't get over that photo. The cheese on those burgers looks INSANE!!

The veggie place I visited in Corpus got a lot of business. There is an audience for it. Actually, the larger cities DO have veg*n restaurants that do very well.

I highly doubt they'll make it to the East Coast any time soon ... and we have Five Guys, so I couldn't care less! YUM, Five Guys!!

leeluvfashion - True, true. I lived in Texas for 8 months (Corpus) and veggie food was hard to come by (only 1 place near me, a cafe). No wonder Corpus Christi tops the lists for most unhealthy people in America. That whole state has issues.

YumSugar - I've heard that too (not confirmed by upper management, just in passing), but with a location opening up in Dallas, I guess that won't be the case anymore :)

danakscully64, I heard a rumor that In-N-Out only opens restaurants within a day's drive of the HQ. Is that true?

Just what Texas needs, another red-meat serving fast food joint raising their blood pressure and cancer risks. :oy: How about a truly healthy, organic, vegetarian "quick" food restaurant? Texas could use that more than anything.

Sourcherries - There are locations outside of California, have been for years (NV, AZ, and Utah). I knew about this a long time ago, I used to work for the company :) Best company ever in terms of the quality of food and the way they treat their employees. I miss the Grilled Cheese (animal style, no lettuce) and fries. So sad, moved to Florida :(

Eh, In-n-Out isn't bad but I never cared for it while I lived in California. I do love to get me some Whataburger when I'm in Texas, my all time favorite fast food joint.
