In-N-Out vs. Five Guys Burgers: Which Ones Are Better?

In-N-Out vs. Five Guys: Which Burger Team Are You On?

Regional burger chains sure have been seeing a lot of press this month. It began when Consumer Reports ranked fast food burgers and shocked the nation when McDonald's came in dead last. Arriving first was West Coast favorite In-N-Out Burger, with Atlantic burger joint Five Guys Burgers & Fries trailing in a close second. But yesterday in an Esquire column, the always-outspoken burger buff Josh Ozersky countered that neither In-N-Out nor Five Guys is deserving of top titles. "Neither burger has any of the hallmarks of actual quality," he writes.

Regardless of whether one agrees with Ozersky or not, one thing's for sure: there's a fierce rivalry between In-N-Out and Five Guys that has only seemed to grow with time. Which do you prefer?

In-n-out buns ARE toasted. If you go and it's not toasted enough, ask them to recook it with a better toasted bun.

I've had both and honestly I wasn't that impressed with in-N-out burger, but I've only had it twice (I don't believe they even have one in my state!) But, they just built a five guys near me and I have been there a few times and I have never been disappointed!

I worked for In-n-out for many years. I can vouch for the quality of the food, sanitation practices, and the company treatment of the employees.... In-n-out all the way. (I'm a vegetarian, never tried Five Guys, but the food looks sloppy every time I see it).

We have neither of those burger joints where I live... But there is a place with mouth watering burgers to DIE FOR! I don't get to eat them much (only when someone treats me to one) because they cost $15 bucks & that BEFORE fries, onion rings, etc. & no matter how great they are... I can't afford 'em.

5 guys! I've never seen an in-n-out. I don't think there are any in Colorado.

I've never had in-n-out... they don't have one where I live. I'm not a Five Guys fan though. Actually, I'm not a burger fan at all. I do want to try Shake Shack though since they just opened one in Miami, I guess that's supposed to be awesome and they have hot dogs so that's good for me.

Don't have either around here. So I guess I can't choose?

Five Guys only has America cheese, so they are blah in my book. We don't have an In-n-Out. Either way, we have much better burgers than 5 Guys in Columbus, OH.

I'm a not a fast food burger kinda girl, but it's so strange that my hubby asked me yesterday if I'd ever heard of Five Guys burger joints, of course my reply was "no". Yum, you and I have a strange connection - you seem to post recipes for what I'm having for dinner (it's happened many, many times) and now this burger thing. Going to tell hubby right now :) Oh I must add that I'm a burger girl, just not fast food!

Any fast food burger is gross to me, I especially hate burgers on soft breads, which most fast food burgers are on...so neither of these is very appetizing.

I prefer Five Guys, but I agree that neither one is really a "great burger." They are both just the best of the fast food burgers. Give me Shake Shack, BGR, Good Stuff, or Ray's any day over either one!

I've had both even though I live on the east coast. It has been a few years since I've been to CA and In-N-Out, but I definitely prefer Five Guys! Their fries are WAY better and while In-N-Out certainly has a good fast food burger, Five Guys is just better IMO. I think it is the toppings and just the messy awesomeness that is a Five Guys cheeseburger. I never craved In-N-Out, and I did have it at least twice during my last trip to CA, but oh do I crave Five Guys. My hubby is on team In-N-Out though... we rarely argue but this is one thing we can't agree on! LOL

I live in Southern California and been to In n out and I've worked there in high school and I must say that it isn't the greatest quality that everyone thinks. I still don't eat there a lot and there are other places to get a better burger. In n out is just hype here in California. I've never been to or hear of Five Guys and a Burger. I'll have to check them out next time I'm on the East Coast.

Never had either. I do like burgers but I'm not much of a fry person. Always wanted to try the "animal style" at In and Out.

I haven't had Five Guys before so I can't compare my dear In N Out. Though there is a 5 Guys being built down the street from me in Sunnyvale. I might have to go try it once they open. I also overheard a rumor that they have a burger that's over 1800 calories. Anyone know if this is true?
