Do You Dine in Airport Restaurants?

When PartySugar and I attended the Food and Wine Classic in Aspen, we ended up changing flights around dinner time. Being a bit peckish, and always in the mood to eat, we headed straight for the airport restaurant to grab some food. When we got there I remembered a friend of mine who never eats in airports. She feels they're too expensive and overpriced. I agree, but sometimes you need food. What do you think? Do you eat in airport restaurants?

It depends. My husband and I love it when we have a long enough layover in Minneapolis to grab lunch, as there's this little fast-foody place we love that makes burritos with international flavors -- our favorite is the tofu Thai peanut.

I do because I'm usually traveling for work, so it's not coming out of my own pocket :P.

Of course. When I am working, the airport is my second home.

I do when we have to kill time and I get hungry, but I got a bad experience with this, once in Heathrow Airport I ate fish and chips from one of the restaurants and got food poisoning! Can you just imagine the torture I had to endure up in there in the plane? Goodness!

I am from Singapore, where we have the world's best airport (or one of the best, hehe). The airport's practically a place locals flock to even when not flying. So I've definitely eaten pretty often at the airport. And we have so many choices, from fast food, food courts to high end restaurants.

I have before, but only if I have time and I'm really hungry.

Most of the time I will grab something fast but if I am really hungry I will go to a restaurant and grab a meal and a drink.

I always bring my own food when I travel, so have never eaten a thing at an airport terminal. I'll get a speciality drink sometimes, but that's it. Some airports just have fast food, which is why I got into traveling with my own.

I've never eaten at one at all. But most of them do have simple resturants like Subway.

Depends on the airport. San Francisco, Chicago, and Heathrow to name a few have good restaurants. Cheers, Angela

Sometimes I'll pick up a coffee or a water, but I agree that they're generally too overpriced for me to consider. There was one time when the flight I was on was delayed for eight hours - from 9 am until 5 pm - so we had to buy breakfast, lunch, and dinner since we clearly weren't planning on the delay. That was a painful day for the wallet!

Always. I hate waiting, so eating is one fun thing I can do. I also always hit the duty free shops. The proof, I'm at the airport right now and just had a big breakfast. Next I'm going to shop. :)

NO, I get so nervous before traveling that I prefer not to eat .

Usually I'm on business travel, so it's covered. I would do it with my own money, anyway. Travel is hard enough without starving yourself. But I work hard to eat lots of veggies.

Airports tend to have restaurants that I would never see at home, so it can be a nice treat. Besides, I REFUSE to pay $9 for a plain salad. If I don't eat before I go on the plane, I may not be eating for eight or ten hours, and I have had my healthy snacks (protein drink and a sugar-free granola bar) confiscated by TSA even though I had a letter from my doctor.

i'm never in the airport long enough to grab some food - but i usually end up getting a drink and a magazine to pass the time :-) the food is always very expensive though - it's better to wait for the in flight snack, har har.

not only are airport restaurants overpriced, the food is usually sub-par as well. when you were bouncing out of aspen you should have checked www.foodieaspen.com and checked out the restaurants where you can grab a quick bite. a lot of the time there is not even any food available in that airport and you have to wait until you get to denver - overpriced and disgusting food at DIA! fill up before next time.
