No, but I used to when I was a kid - and my husband still does. ONCE last year when I just had a terrible craving I asked my husband to grab me a piece of candy
Can't say I have...
I totally just thought the same - it took me a second to realize that you meant straight out of the bin.
we dont have any bulk bins in my area. After reading some of ur comments it sounds like a good idea.
i haven't in a really long time , but i used to get nuts from WHOLE FOODS - and they have the bulk bins. the more that i thought about it though, the more that i started to fear them because you don't know that everyone's being sanitary when they go to scoop things out.
It's too much like theft, I wouldn't be confortable doing so. If I wanted to try a bit I would ask if I could. Otherwise, nope. Verily: I'm with you. Of course some people are very gross but that is not deadly. You'd have to be incredibly unlucky to pick up something serious out of a bulk bin.
I only buy oatmeal, quinoa, and spices from bulk bins. Since none of those things taste exactly scrumptious straight from the bin, I just fill my bag and go. Sometimes after I fill my bag with coffee from those dispenser thingies, I'll grab a couple of beans from the bag and crush them up in my hand to make sure they have the right aroma and color...not sure if that exactly counts or not though :)
I thought the same thing aphill! I've never even thought to eat out of the bins.
We used to get the Brach's candies from the store but not since I was a little kid. Not sure I sneaked any though, maybe after they were already in our bag.
I don't eat out of bulk bins. But if I'm grocery shopping in the morning, I'll buy out of them for a bargain sometimes.
Never. My mom told me that eating out of the bin is theft and its gross because some other fool might have put their grubby hands in there. Also, I tattletale at my Whole Foods when I stop folks standing by the bulk bins of dried fruits, nuts and candy and they are grazing. I run to the nearest associate and point the person out and demand action. Hee hee tattletale
The bins are a great way to save money. If you need a spice, get 3 spoonfuls and it costs somthing like 38 cents. I've been thinking about getting a variety of oats and nuts and dried fruits to create cereals, too. And I think I snuck a piece of candy or two when I was a kid, but I'd always feel so guilty.
I don't buy snacks out of the bulk bin so I don't sample.
verily: That's exactly what I do! I always put an extra scoop of almonds or whatever into my bag so I can have a few. I do the same with olives when I am trying to figure out what kind I want. I put one in my container and taste it. If I like it, I fill the container.
I used to sneak a little snack from the bulk bins when I was a kid but I don't do that anymore. The only thing I buy from a bulk bin is coffee beans. Theres a little nozzle where the coffee beans come out so people can't put their grubby hands in it.
And I have snacked on a nut or piece of candy, as the store is ok with customers trying a sample...but I pick it up from the container I dumped the stuff into and not the bin.
I buy tons of stuff from bulk bins: spices, flour, sugar, grains, nuts, candy, coffee, tea, etc... It's a really great way to save money. And I have yet to die from some mystery plague brought on by people touching the contents...or even catch a cold.
aphill4, i thought that too! lol, I used to eat eat out of bulk bins when I was a kid, but now I'm too paranoid
I won't buy the stuff that's not wrapped, I've watched little kids and adults stick their hands right in there. It's too Gross!!
i like buying a variety from bulk for when i indulge during a movie. the bins are just tempting at movie theaters! this is a rare occasion and i only eat after my bag is filled though
I can't remember the last time I bought from a bulk bin.
lol aphill4 I asked the same thing. Hey I am only a quarter way through my caramel latte, so it's not working yet. I only buy from those things if the candies are individually wrapped. and I don't sneak pieces.
"No, I fill my bag, but eat nothing." Haha, that took me a second to realize it meant eat OUT of the bin itself. I sat here for a second thinking "Why would you fill a bag and not eat any?" Geez, I need to wake up.
I used to when I was a kid. But now I just don't buy from them.
Not if the candy is unwrapped. I've seen people stick their hands in those bins. Imagine where their fingers were before they stuck their hand in there. Yikes.
