My lips will swell up really bad, and my throat itches horribly and closes up. It sucks having to ask all the time what's in something. If I'm not sure, I don't risk it. I think the allergy has gotten worse as I've gotten older. The other bad part about a nut allergy is that nut oils are used in lotions/body care products more and more. It is hard ordering places, especially since I love Italian. I loved the Rachael Ray show, but my gosh, everything has onion or garlic in it!! Makes me so damn sick in 2 seconde!!! :barf: starl3tte 7 years After being tested by my naturopathic doctor for food sensitivities, I now stay away from dairy, eggs, soy, wheat, and gluten. It's definitely a challenge, but my health has never been better. silly_pickle 7 years Peanuts, but only as I got older. Which means that I know exactly what I'm missing: Peanut Butter Cups. Luckily, I'm not deathly allergic, so others can eat peanut products around me. But I do have to check labels for peanuts and peanut oil, peanut flour, etc. It's really hard to find a decent granola bar. susanec 7 years People who say they're allergic to banana and kiwi, there's a whole family of related compounds (you probably know this but I think it's interesting and have to find people allergic to all of them) including latex. Definitely things to look out for. While not necessarily an allergy or even an intolerance, soy and peanuts trigger my migraines so I can't have them. rickimc 7 years Peanuts and all legumes angelinemarie 7 years no allergies at all! i-am-awesomeness 7 years Yes, I have a serious allergy to peanuts. I had an allergy to all tree nuts until last year(2007) when I learned that I could have almonds and some other nuts. I'm also allergic to crab. I have had these allergies since I was a child. I had an allergic reaction to peanuts when I was around four or five and have avoided peanuts since then. I wish more food companies wouldn't process products that would normally be ok for me to eat on machinery used to process peanuts because then I have to avoid those products too. CiaoBella2 7 years I don't, but my sister can't eat oysters, clams and other shell fish. insanitypepper 7 years After tests, my childhood allergist said that I was allergic to peanuts and chocolate. I've never had any problem with those, but celery gives me a tingly tongue. I suspect my mom & the allergist were in cahoots to keep me away from peanut butter cups. fadedblue 7 years i know there's a name for my kind of allergy but it's a more general one where certain fruits and veggies cause itching and a little swelling in the mouth and lips. nothing serious but pretty irritating. i basically can't eat a lot of melon, banana, avocado, kiwi, maybe a few more things i can't remember. i think it has to do with a particular enzyme in those foods. wackdoodle 7 years I second Guinnevere Yum. I just had a bad allergic reaction to salmon. Everything was swollen (no joke 3x my normal size - my skin was bursting) including my throat and eyes were also swollen, I had horrible itching and slight wheezing. My doctor gave me an Epi-pen to carry now. I threw away my leftover but the trash bag accidentally ripped open. I picked up the leftover salmon with my bare hand and bam the reaction started again even worse! Very scary. guinnevere 7 years oh ps, yumsugar- you really shouldn't keep pushing it if something is giving you allergic reaction signs. as we grow older, repeated exposure to allergens that were at one time slight can actually make the allergic reaction worse, often without warning turning to a severe reaction. my allergist used to just get slight itchy mouth from shellfish, so he kept eating it because the symptoms were mild enough not to be an inconvenience until one day he was at a local grill w/ his wife and a shrimp had merely TOUCHED his quesadilla and he had severe anaphylaxic shock and had to be intubated en route to the ER by paramedics. i used to go ahead and eat the occasional banana and run around without my epipen before he told me about that, but now i try really hard to be careful. guinnevere 7 years yes, sadly, i'm allergic to tree nuts, codfish, and BANANAS of all things. (can you tell which one i miss the most???) none of these allergies manifested themselves until i was 19 years old. bidds626 7 years I have the same sugar allergy as some above- raw apples, carrots, peaches, cherries and most stone fruit. non organic peanut butter gies me the same feeling...a slight itch in my mouth and throat and lips that is easily remedied by some water or milk and chapstick. I hate raw carrots and I lament cherries ( my throat closes easy with them) but I can eat a green apple instead of a red one because the sugar is different and I can get organic peanut butter which tastes a lot better. Oddly, I can eat raw peanuts en masse before I have even a tickle. and cooked carrots are just as icky as raw ones, even if they don't get me sick. mishy_foster16 7 years I found out just last year that I am allergic to Sugar... I've had to learn how to control it :P Everything has sugar in it!!!! wackdoodle 7 years Yes I do. Things with iodine (shellfish, red fish), fish from hatcheries and Atlantic coast fish, KIWI (I hate you devil fruit!), foods with sulfites or sulfur in it (hello sulfured molasses I'm looking at you-you to dried apricots), Raisins. I'm sure more will develop because those all came about after I turned 18 or in my 20s or later. Wait, the raisin one- that's more of and out and out hatred of raisins than an allergy. Raisins and I have been at war since I was three and someone give me raisins for halloween. Neither candy nor fruit just pure torture. kikidawn 7 years Thank God I don't have any (that I know of) and I really hope I don't develop any (like others above have). Livyourlife, do you carry an EpiPen? You sound like you should be. PinkUnicorn 7 years I have no food allergies....yet. My mom had no food allergies until she was pregnant with me, but during the pregnancy and to this day she is now allergic to most tree nuts and all raw fruit except citrus, grapes and bananas. It is so scary because all it would take is a little raw apple or some ground up hazelnuts in a dessert to make her throat swell and kill her. I really hope I don't develop these allergies when I'm pregnant!
