Do You Mind Shopping in a Crowded Grocery Store?

Now that I've moved to a new neighborhood, I've started shopping at a different grocery store, specifically the Whole Foods on Franklin and California in San Francisco. I've only been twice, but both times it was unbelievably crowded — so packed that I could hardly make my way through the aisles. When I asked the checker if it was always busy, he said, "Yes. Rumor has it this Whole Foods is the second busiest store in the nation, after the one in New York City." Yikes! I prefer not to shop when the store is extra crowded, so buying groceries there is definitely going to take some getting used to. How do you feel about the matter?

It doesn't really bug me except when people block an entire aisle with their cart and their cart contains a child or their purse - then I feel trapped. If I touch your cart you're gonna think something shady is going on when I'm just trying to get by your rude aisle-blocking. And here in SF basic social etiquette of saying "Excuse me." or "pardon me" to someone to indicate that you'd like to pass by them doesn't work. Its best to visit that Franklin/California Street Whole Foods store when it first opens in the morning before 10:30am or after the lunch rush around 2pm or after the dinner rush around 7pm. I like that WF but I tend to hit the 4th Street local more. With the 4th street store I don't care what time of day I go or if its busy because I know that location like the back of my hand.

I don't like waiting in line, but jeez, the grocery stores in LA and NYC sound terrible! I guess that's one of the perks of living in a small town. :)

some of the stores by me are open 24 hours...so i like to go late at night or even in the middle of the night

I don't like it either. That's why I try to go during non-peak times. It's more peaceful, and the store is neater.

I mind it esp when people walk like they're strolling along the park. Haha!

The worst thing about Whole Foods when it's busy is that there are always a bunch of people clogging the aisles while they're eating free samples. They aren't even shopping, just walking from sample to sample.

I don't like it, but I tolerate it. I just don't like crowded stores where there are tons of screaming kids in addition to the hordes of other shoppers.

I don't like the crowds so I hit Trader Joe's right when it opens at 8 AM on Saturday and the grocery store late at night.

I live near that Whole Foods in NYC, there is usually a line out the door so I have yet to shop there

Despise it. I try to go weekly on a day off early in the morning to get most of my items. If I'm desperate and it's busy I do a run and grab so I don't bother with a cart. If I can't carry it I don't need it that bad it can wait. I can occasionally get by with giving a list to my other half but that's very seldom.

Of course I prefer to shop when it's less crowded, but I've NEVER gotten so stressed out I started shoving and gritting my teeth and scowling and throwing a temper tantrum! When my four year old acts like that I put her in time outs. It's not that terrible waiting to get a good look at the dairy case; be polite and take turns. Plan for crowds if you're going on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, check your list again before you check out, take a deep breath and calm down!

It is much better to shop with less people around. They Holiday's are the worst.I heard that Wednesday is best day to shop.

I can't stand for it to be crowded. That's why I always shop late at night. Usually on a Saturday night. It's always dead.

I hate it. That's why I always go on a weekday afternoon because there is no one there. When I have made the mistakes of going on a weekend especially a Sunday, I'm so annoyed and want to get out as soon as possible.

I've gone to the Whole Foods here in NYC so many times, only to walk right back out without buying anything.

That's why I almost always go at night, after 8 pm usually. I have my routine of walking through the store, and I hate it when people are in my way and I have to deviate from the routine. I will always forget something when that happens. I just don't like crowded shopping - like going to IKEA on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Ugh.

It depends on what you consider crowded. I don't mind a little energy — I often shop at the same Whole Foods as Party, and the Trader Joe's which is also second busiest next to NYC TJ's — but true lines and crowds are horrible. They tend to bring out the worst in people.

Yes, yes, YES! I HATE it! I throw on my fiercest scowl and shoulder my way through the teeming crowds (hey, they are shoving right back!). Yeah, I suppose that could be part of the charm, but I grit my teeth every time. I prefer shopping in the wee hours (a.m. or p.m.) to get in and out quicly.

It's going to be hard to get used to. I think I may go into Whole Foods when I'm not grocery shopping and walk around to see where everything is.

i hate when it is busy, it stresses me out! People are rude, leave their carts in the middle... so I prefer to go when it is dead. :)

I hate trying to make my way through the aisles and then inevitably there are only a few checkouts open so the lines are so long. I am not a fan.
