Do You Read the Menu Before Eating at a New Restaurant?
Oct 25 2007 • By
Gotta know if I can afford it.
Ur_Momm is right on the money... I read so I'm not stuck eating the bread basket for dinner.
Most of the time if I am not familiar with the place. If I am going with some one who knows what I like, then I usually do not need to see it and take my friends word that there will be something I like. I also check out the health dept. rating posted on the front window displayed in certain cities.
I might look at it first if it's posted in a visible spot...but if the restaurant looks/seems nice, I'm usually confident I'll find something I like. I love trying new foods and experimenting when I'm out to eat, so I'm usually easy to please too!
I have to check every menu before eating at new restaurants, because my man is VERY picky. I have to make sure there is something on the menu he can eat, or there's no point in going.
For a vegetarian, it's a must!
If it's totally new to me, yes, but if it's been recommended by a couple of friends, I stroll on in to be pleasantly surprised
I usually don't think to, but if I think of it, I'll browse it.
I do if they post the menu. Not very many places do that around here
I get a bit obsessed about this, I will read it from front to back and still question the server about it. And like simnboutme, I too go to the resturants site and check the menu.
I always look at the menu but not to see if I'll like the place...I like to read to the menu so I know what I'll order in advance or if they have something that I'm craving... For new restaurants, I usually check out reviews and blogs before I go in addition to checking out their menu.
I'll usually take a quick glance...also depends on who i'm with though...
Well since I don't eat red meat or fish of any kind it's self preservation for me to read the menu to see if there's anything I'd eat.
Absolutely. Just to see that I'll enjoy the food and be able to meet the price range.
I always like to know if there's anything that sounds appetizing to me and if it's in my price range. Occasionally I have walked into a resturant without looking at the menu and regretted it.
My lovely boyfriend and I will try anything so we don't worry about checking ahead. But I usually research chic new places for the mood and service. Cheaper places we'll stop in randomly just for fun!
Always. We usually decide to try a restaurant after walking by several times and noticing it's busy or that the food on the plate of the outdoor diners looks good. We just found our new favorite place that way. :)
it depends- i usually do glance for price range. if its something like an italian place, where i know i like italian food, i'll walk right in. if its something different, like a fusion place or a fancy place, i'll read the menu first briefly -just to make sure there is at least one dish i'll eat. i'm a slightly picky eater, so as long as i see one thing i'll eat i'll go in
Depends... sometimes I've been recommeded restaurants from other vegetarians, so I know I can eat there and don't have to read the menu. I do check all other restaurants though to make sure I'm not stuck eating a plain dinner salad. When I go to San Diego, I always check the menu to make sure it's not completely out of my price range as well.
I sure do!
Absolutely. I have to see if there is variety at a new place. If there's only one or two things I will eat, I probably won't go back unless I really am craving the specific dish.
I have to make sure they have foods that 'agree' with me because I have colitis. Even though really nothing agrees with me, I still look.
If it's posted, I'll read it. Why go in if the prices are out of your range or they don't have what you like.
Nope! I like the suprise! And most places in Canada (unlike Europe) don't have a menu posted otuside so it's pretty hard to read before going in!
I make sure they have vegetarian options and that they aren't outrageously expensive... then I'm game!
