Allytta 7 years i use recipes for baking only... cooking is just art for me. haven't managed to make baking an art yet, but working on it :) purrtykitty 7 years totally! 1) i gotta know what's in it so i can make sure i have everything i need (i hate those mid-cooking store-runs) and 2) i gotta know if i have the proper utensils, skills or most importantly the PATIENCE to attempt the recipe! beingtazim 7 years i only use recipes when i bake and yeah, i look first unless it is for chocolate chip bars as i have made those so often now. But most of the time I have bad surprises anyway (e.g. : I read add 1 tomato, when the recipe says "add 1 lb tomatoes..."). Loreal25 7 years Since I'm just starting to experiment with new recipes besides the ones that were passed down from family, I definitely read the recipe a couple times first just to get a feel of what I need to do. Then I see if I can substitute any ingredients. PJ-PJ-PJ 7 years If it's a brand new recipe, I'll read it. You need to know what ingredients to have & if you have to marinade or chill something beforehand. (I've had to go to plan B more than a few times, because I didn't read it beforehand.) Otherwise, I'll wing it on my own. sumnboutme 7 years i usually read it a couple times over so i know i have everything down. i don't like to keep going back to the recipe once i've started to cook...i need to be in the moment...hahahahahah. Too back I didn't pick up my Italian grandmother's cooking talent :( Food 7 years I usually skim the recipe first, it depends on what i'm making. If it's for a special occasion, I always read the recipe. If it's an everyday sort of thing I'll wing if I get to a part I don't have time/ingredients for. It drives YumJimmy crazy, he's a read it over and over and follow it to a T. Even if i do read it over and over, I don't always follow it. Usually it's okay, but sometimes... oh well learn from losing, no? MindayH 7 years I would be a horrible cook if I wasn't good at reading directions! But most of the time I cook from the heart...family recipes that aren't written down and also my own recipes that are in my head! That's why I really can't share my recipes at YUM....I cook to taste and from memory. Now baking is a different story. That's chemistry.... I find it helps. designergirl 7 years Saturn9, Im guilty of that too. I don't know why I always seem to skip "must refrigerate for 8 hours" or something important like that. Last week I served my poor hungry boyfriend dinner at 10:30 becuase of an error like that. staceyleeroberts 7 years I try my best not to cook! When I do cook I like to try out different recipes of my own, different spices, etc. I've learned to trust my instincts and it usually turns out yummy.
