Do You Take Your Jewelry Off When Cooking?
Nov 9 2007 • By
I had my engagement ring built to take hard knocks while still looking pretty. No time to worry about that sort of stuff when the kitchen is a-blazin'.
Whoops! prime area* HOT water*
This is one of the first things learned in any culinary class! When you wash your hands** you ALWAYS take off your jewelry and also you shouldn't have any nail polish on. Wearing jewelry is just asking for bacteria growth in your food, even if you don't touch it (which most of the time you at least have to cut a vegetable or crack an egg) jewelry is a prime growth area for any kind of bacteria growth and can't be washed properly. **Letting water get to HOT, roll out paper towel, rinse your hands with the HOT , wash with soap up to your wrists(sing happy birthday 3 times?), don't forget your nails, rinse with the hot water, and dry with already rolled towel
i don't wear jewelry generally, but when i'm in the habit of wearing a ring i'll take it off usually. i think the girl is dropping cabbage in a pan, not tossing a salad.
If my hands are going into dough or raw meat or something messy, I take my wedding ring off.
I do take off my rings if my hands are going to get gunky, same with my watch. But I have a jade bangle that won't come off without using some sort of oil and lots of pain, so that stays on.
I take off my engagement ring, but leave on my wedding band.
I take my bracelets off when i walk in the kitchen. But my ring stays. i just take the ring of when i have to do dough something.
It really depends on what I am cooking. If it is gonna get my hands ucky then I take off my engagement band & claddagh. My wedding band NEVER comes off, it is solid so I am not worried about it not coming clean when I wash my hands.
Nope. When my husband bought my engagement ring, the jeweler told me to only take off my ring to sleep- and then only put it in the exact same place every night.
I take them off.
I take my jewelry off all the time. Not only will gunk get caught in them, but I just think it's unsanitary. Sure you wash your hands ans stuff but it still strikes me as bad. I always shiver when I see the chefs on TV making food with jewelry on.
I don't take my rings or watch off. Don't see the point. If you keep your cutting boards and such clean, there should be no reason that chicken and such would be contaminated. People worry too much.
Anyone change long sleeves before cooking?
putting rings on the watch band is a good idea. i'm terrified of taking off rings because every time i do i somehow lose them.
I can't stand to get my wedding ring dirty, so I usually take it off when I'm doing something I know will be messy.
I only wear a wedding band, So I keep em on unless I'm making bread or Pizza, and have to knead dough. Learned the hard way on that one.
I only wear my wedding band, it's not like it can get that messy; I keep it on.
I only take off my wedding ring or watch if I'm going to get really messy - like with dough and such. But usually I just keep it all on.
I don't always wear jewelry, but when I'm at home, I only remove it if my hands are going to get gunked up or I'll be handling something risky like meat or chicken. If I'm cooking in a professional kitchen and/or cooking for others, I always remove my jewelry and go by super clean standards.
Looks like cabbage, syako. And yes, I always take my jewelry off.
After getting cookie dough all up in engagement ring, YES! I slide it on my watch band and fasten it together and sit it on my headboard so it never gets lost or gross!
It depends on what I'm making. If my hands are having direct contact with meat or dough, then yes. Otherwise, usually not.
I always take off my ring.
