I cook and bake all the time, so like gigglesugar, I make adjustments when an ingredient sounds off, and I also add ingredients to make a recipe better. I usually skip the baking recipes where the proportions sound like the cake would be too dense or too dry, for example.

I cook enough to know that if a portion sounds off to me--I'll add in that ingredient "to taste." I recently made an eggplant dip that called for blue cheese. Since I chose Roquefort--it was intense. If I'd used the amount the recipe asked for, none of the other ingredients would have come through. And I've learned my lesson with salt, as well...

I follow most steps on other peoples recipes, but I have a whole brainful of my own.

I follow most recipes but I use a bit of discretion... Like, one sweet potato casserole called for WAY too much sugar and a cut it down; still tasted fantastic.

I'm with the first poster. When I'm baking I follow the recipe closely. When I am cooking I'm not as vigilant.

I'm just in the process of learning how to cook so I can make a half way decent wife someday so you bet I follow it to the letter. I might poison someone or burn the house down if I don't;)

well it depends, if I'm baking ofcourse I follow it excactly, other things I just eye ball measurements and such
