It's Getting Haute Chocolate in Here

It's Getting Haute Chocolate in Here

If you thought the Serpentine Goblets were pricey, then let me introduce you to the world's most expensive dessert: Frrrozen Haute Chocolate. Created by the folks at the Serendipity 3 restaurant in NY, the Frrrozen Haute Chocolate — which is an expensive version of their famous Frrrozen Hot Chocolate — rings up at $25,000. Yes, that is a five figure price tag on a single dessert.

The dessert itself is a mix of cocoa and milk, frozen to a slush-like drink. Five grams of 24-carat gold is mixed in and then it's topped with more gold and garnished with a $250 chocolate truffle that is flown in from France.

The dessert has just gone on sale and actually needs a two week lead time (they also fly the gold in from Switzerland). So far they haven't sold any, but I'm sure that's just a matter of time.

Serendipity 3 was closed very briefly (I think waaaay too briefly) for like a zillion health code violations. I used to live nearby and went there a few times - I won't now! http://www.nysun.com/new-york/parlor-serving-25000-dessert-is-closed-due/66545/ they found: "a live mouse, mouse droppings in multiple areas of the restaurant, fruit flies, house flies, and more than 100 live cockroaches"

Has anyone ever had the cinnamon schnapps that has little gold flakes in it? there are so small, and thin, they don't harm you or hurt...you can't even feel them when you swallow! they are thinner than paper and smaller than a pencil eraser. The gold on this drink is probably the same. if not, it can't be much bigger.

$25,000? Maybe if I suddenly discovered a rich uncle left me millions. And is eating gold really good for you? Even if it doesn't harm your digestive tract, it can't be all that comfortable coming out.

Wow. You could feed SO MANY people with $25,000.

I dunno, I just had wisdom teeth removed and i'm getting a wee bit crazy-desperate... anything looks good as long as it isn't mashed potatoes!

Can gold harm your digestive system? Are you supposed to pick it out? Weird.

I've heard of this. It's insane. And I've been to Serendipity 3. While I liked it there, I didn't like that you couldn't just order dessert, since that's what they do best there.

There are people around the world suffering of poverty who needs this money to eat. Even if I have this amount of money why would I still spend it on something that is totally not worth it?! with 25,000 $ I think you can provide food for a whole village :s

I'd think so; the $700 ice cream had a $500 take home dish.

Can you at least take the serving dish home with you after it's gone? Or maybe there's a diamond in there somewhere that you keep as a souvenir?

If you have this kind of money to throw away why not throw it at a charity? The sad thing is I'm sure its just a matter of time before someone buys it.

.....If I had that kind of money laying around I would totally buy this.
