Gordon Ramsay to Bring Masterchef to America

Gordon Ramsay sure is busy. Besides joining Tony Bourdain on the animated series circuit, the reigning king of chef empires will play a key role in a new show, Masterchef, airing soon on Fox.

The Masterchef series was first a hit in the UK in 1990 and has recently garnered high ratings in Australia. It's being described as a culinary American Idol. The show goes on a "nationwide search for the best amateur chef in America." While Ramsay will coproduce and be on air, it's unclear what role he will play in the new show. Scheduling hasn't been announced. Precisely what America needs! Another amateur cooking competition.

Do you think the show will appeal to the mainstream? Or has the TV cooking space reached its saturation point?

i love Gordan Ramsey and the other judge but Joe Bastianich has GOT to go, he knows nothing and rides on his mothers skirt tails. He can't even figure out wine, he was on a morning show I watched and they put wine in a glass that he couldn"t see thru and he said it was white wine when in fact it was red! He is NOT a chef and brings nothing to the show but embarrassing himself! Pick another judge PLEASE!

Has anybody that got a call back after the initial casting call heard anything yet?

I like Ramsay. But I do think that there are too many cooking shows on television now.

MasterChef is a great show. I don't know how Gordon is going to be as good as the two UK hosts - John Torrode and Greg Wallace rock.

Well if it is truly amateur chefs, then it will be nothing like Top Chef, which features professional, accomplished chefs (just because someone isn't a "celebrity chef" doesn't make them amateur). I hope it is not like Hell's Kitchen with a lot of people who kind of suck at cooking but make great reality tv contestants. Also, I hope Fox doesn't air it because if they do it will just be a joke.

It sounds like a mix between Top Chef and The Next Food Network Star. It might be kind of interesting, but only because Gordon Ramsey is on it. If anyone else were hosting it, it wouldn't be nearly as good.
