When our editorial assistant Aemilia Madden brought in a container of Grapery's cotton candy grapes, editors flocked to her desk to try one of these mystical seedless green grapes that taste exactly like spun sugar. The secret isn't infusing the grapes with some sort of flavoring, as is the case with Grapples, or grape-flavored apples. Instead, Grapery worked alongside International Fruit Genetics to cross-breed thousands of grape varieties until they discovered one with a cotton candy-like flavor.
So, um, what exactly does a cotton candy grape taste like? Think: extremely sweet with very low tannins. These grapes leave a syrupy, vanilla aftertaste on your palate, just like spun sugar. And they don't just deliver on flavor. The plump grapes snap off the vine and have a satisfying firm texture while being incredibly juicy. Taste testers (even the grape and/or cotton candy averse) couldn't help but pop grape after grape into their mouths.
Now for the question you've all been waiting for: where the heck can you pick up these awesome green grapes? Though Grapery has limited retail locations, they do offer a four-pound pack ($20) that can be delivered straight to your door. Think four pounds is excessive? Just imagine all the co-workers, roommates, strangers on the bus, etc. that you can make happy by simply asking, "Hey would you like to try a cotton candy-flavored grape?" And when in doubt, freeze them! It's like you're eating bite-sized cotton-candy popsicles.
