Hagel Slag: Dutch Chocolate Sprinkles

Savory Sight: Your Morning Dose of Hagel Slag

Chocoholics: check out Elka Karl's hagel slag. That'd be Dutch for chocolate sprinkles.

Good morning! I wanted to share this photo of waffles with Hagel Slag (Dutch chocolate sprinkles) that the hubz posted on Facebook this morning. This weekend I made waffles, and he decided to finally try the Hagel Slag (haw-gull schlawg) that I brought back from Amsterdam. The results are in: it was totally delicious.

I make waffles with nonfat plain yogurt in place of much of the milk, which gives them a buttermilky tang, and always separate the yolks from the egg whites to keep them fluffy. How do you make your waffles?

Susannah I can't remember the last time I've tasted chocolate sprinkles, so I'm not a very good judge, but I can tell you that they're sold in milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and mixed flavors. Le Petite, agreed about the box! It's so ridiculous. Totally weird cartoon characters; I'm pretty sure this particular hagel slag is marketed towards kids.

The box looks strange...it kind of made me laugh. The dog looks deranged.

I'm curious about it. Is it very different from our version of chocolate sprinkles?

Oh I love that stuff! They sprinkle all kinds of weird stuff on their bread. Whenever I went there on family vacations, we'd come back with a suitcase full of sweet toast toppings :)
